AIBU?

To think I've just heard the most ridiculous view on breastfeeding?

This is regarding the Saccone Jolys and the dads view.

A boy of a certain age (from around 6) shouldn't see his mother breast feed due to sexual feelings Confused

Aibu to think this is both a disgusting and ridiculous view?

WeirdoHmm
My 9yo thinks it's completely normal and is a bit sad that he can't feed his brother (although he doesn't seem so keen to help when I point out other things he could do!)

My DM thinks it is very unfair to BF in front of any male as it is only natural that he will feel jealous that he doesn't have access. Therefore bf isn't about nutrition, it is a woman's way of taunting and teasing menHmm

Hmm I will never understand why breastfeeding has to be such a contentious issue. It's just feeding a baby. I feel very different about my boobs whilst feeding. If my husband even so much as tried to touch them he'd get a slap. If he got the hump over that he'd get a divorce. The rest of society's feelings on the matter do not matter. My 5 year old dd and her cousin have been fascinated by watching me feed dd2. To the point that they decided to play 'mum and baby' and were pretending to feed each other under a blanket! Totally innocent and hilarious to see dd shout 'look mummy I'm booby feeding!' And then fall about in fits of giggles.

cobblers! when i were a lad back in the fifties it was perfectly normal for anyone's mum to whip her babe up onto the tit most anywhere, as lads we never batted and eyelid we had far better things to do!

Myself and my eleven year old DS think nothing of him planting a kiss on his baby brother's head whilst hes feeding.

Im obviously a sexually deviant abusive mother who has made my son complicit in my erroneous ways Hmm

Confused

That is deeply disturbing.

Even the most extremist Muslims, for all I know, don't suspect boys of incestuous fantasies about their mothers.

What is next? Bottlefeeding only because, after all, a baby could also have sexual feelings?

I suppose girls of six years are also not allowed to be present when their baby brother's nappies are changed by ... the father, I assume, as after all, a woman could have sexual thoughts triggered by the sight of a penis. Confused

Says a lot about that man's mentality. Wouldn't want him around any girl or woman for fear of what his uncontrollable sexual feelings might lead him to do.

erhmmm... wasn't Oedipus' problem that he hadn't seen enough of his mother as a child (what with being exposed on the mountainside and that), not that he had seen too much of her?

In Sophocles, yes. He thus married Jocasta without recognising her as his mother.

I was referring more to the Freudian interpretation (as much as I understand it).

Yeah, people tend to be completely uninterested with sex in anyone they grew up with.

Normal people.

This man is rather suspicious. What kinds of thoughts, I wonder, does he have about his own mother? Confused

I agree that view is shocking but I also think breast feeding is sexualised to an extent in the (gutter) press - think the staged pictures of tamara eccleston and v secret models all professionally done up with silicon enhanced pert breast exposed and with the mother pouting at the camera again with surgically enhanced lips. You don't see the women in paddy fields who sling their boob over their shoulder as they are breastfeeding whilst working. Its just another example of how certain aspects of the media push a particular agenda. And then others take it and run with it.

... in sex with anyone they grew up with, that should be.

Freud was rather bonkers with regard to his incest theories. I read that he found out many of his female patients had been sexually abused by their fathers, and because that scared him, and got him criticised by his male colleagues, he made up a theory to explain why the women were totally lying about it.

Sure, this doesn't happen in a vacuum. Still shocking, though.
