Dads changing nappies

I have a newborn DD. My friend has a 5 month DD. At my baby shower friend told me that her DH doesn't change their babies nappies because she's a girl. Now DD is here and my DH changes just as many nappies as I do and I think I would find it a definite strain to be breast feeding and doing all the nappies. I never thought of dad's changing girls nappies as an issue. Should I have?

No. Your friend and her DH are weird. Or her DH has found the perfect excuse never to change a nappy.

Your friend is batshit!

Ha ha ha! Crazy. We have two girls and a boy and I reckon DH has probably changed more nappies than me. He also bathed more with the kids than I did (I like a boiling hot bath) yep, the girls too.

I'm sure all the mothers of boys would be delighted to know they don't have to change nappies any more 😄 Though of course it won't work that way around, women are expected to get on with the shitwork regardless...

Nope. Your friend is odd. DH does most of DDs nappies when he's home, it's a great bonding thing!

That's the strangest thing I've heard in a while. Why?

Report
savagehk · 28/04/2017 13:59

What if it was a boy? Would he do all the nappies?

Report
BaDumShh · 28/04/2017 14:00

So by that logic, all the mums of boys shouldn't be changing nappies? Hmm

What a crock of shite.

Well lets hope her next one is a boy so he has to do them all as then she cant change her son what a pair of weridos

That's it! No more nappies for me! From now on DP is on his own. Wish I'd thought of this before, I've been unnecessarily changing DS's nappies for two years.....

Your friends DH is a lazy arse. It's his daughter of course he should be changing her nappy.

I have a friend who said her DH doesn't change their daughter's nappies because he doesn't feel comfortable with it, as she is a girl Hmm personally I think he either has issues or just wants an excuse not to and is a bit of a shite dad

This sort of thing really winds me up. It's projecting inappropriate adult behaviour onto a totally innocent situation. The other day a lunch supervisor at DC's infant school told me they've stopped the girls playing on the monkey bars because they were showing their knickers! Ridiculous.

How do a same sex couple cope if they have a child of the opposite sex? Or a single parent?

This is honestly one of the most batshit things I've read on here for a while, and that has some stiff competition!! 😂

Is there an unknown background? Either there is and there are deep rooted issues or he is just a lazy dick

Oh, and would your friend refuse to change a nappy if her baby was a boy??

I'm sorry, wtaf? "The other day a lunch supervisor at DC's infant school told me they've stopped the girls playing on the monkey bars because they were showing their knickers!"
I hope you complained?

I have known a few men, not many but a few, be reluctant to change a girls nappy. It comes from a fear of not knowing how far to clean if that makes sense.
I have however known a lot of men be ok with the nappy changing and wiping but call the mother for the application of cream.
My own dh is one of them, he would get on with it if He had to but if I was there I was on cream duty.

If my DH told me he didn't want to change DD's nappies because it made him uncomfortable I'd tell him to stop being a lazy fucker be quite worried about why it made him uncomfortable.

Nappies are his job when he's here, I only do them when he's at work, I bf so we have a top end / bottom end division of labour.

I have twin girls- DH would get short shrift if he tried that shit excuse out on me! As it is he does lots of nappy changes and is the one to bathe them about 95% of the time- though he said he wouldn't want to bathe with them unless he was wearing trunks..... but he doesn't use that as an excuse to get out of doing any graft so I have no issues with it!
