Writing will with stepchildren

My partner and I have a child between us and he has an older child too. We are thinking of writing a will, what have others done in this situation? Is it fair that both children get half of our assets? As obviously DSC will also inherit from the other parent. Just interested it what others have done. TIA Smile

From previous threads, the norm seems to be that would you leave your half to your child. Your DH divides his half between his two children. At first glance that seem unfair as your joint child will get 75% and your stepchild 25% - but the DSC will also inherit from their mum which levels it out.

Ours is set up as timeforteaplease says.

We have one each from before and one together

So my half goes to my DS and joint DS (JDS)

Dh's half goes to his DS and JDS

JDS gets 50%
Each other DS gets 25% because it is assumed they will inherit from their mum/dad
