AIBU?

DH has been sprayed with red dye!

This morning DH was running along the Thames towpath as he often does. He was running quite fast as he's training. There is an area where the path narrows a bit and he had caught up and was running behind a woman. He thought she moved to one side to let him pass, so he ran up behind her, at which point she screamed and suddenly sprayed him with a spray! Most of it got on his t-shirt but some of it also also got on his neck and lower face, though he didn't realise at the time. She screamed at him to get away from her and then ran back the other way. He was saying to her, "It's ok" etc, but he said she was so freaked out and looked so terrified he didn't try and follow her.
Now he has a zig-zag pattern of red up his neck and on the left side if his face and it really won't come off. He went into work and someone told him its probably a dye that the police use to mark criminals! I looked on google and it looks as if you can buy a red spray dye that won't wash off for 7 days! If it's this, it's a nightmare as he has to go to China on business tomorrow.
DH feels bad that she was so scared and her reaction actually scared him. He thinks maybe he should have held back, but he thought she was letting him overtake her. I think her reaction was a bit extreme though -AIBU? I run down that path frequently (although not at 6.30am) and I have never heard of anything like this.

Try washing up liquid or scrubbing with lemon, sugar and water.

She must be really scared to go to the extreme of carrying that around.

LostMySanityCanIBorrowYours · 26/04/2017 17:04

Have you tried baby oil? That always gets hair dye off my skin that soap won't touch. Alcohol is effective too if you have any.

Her reaction was extreme. Perhaps she's had a bad experience? Though that's not an excuse for reacting the way she did, it may explain her extreme behaviour.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2017 17:05

If you're that scared then why would you go running along a towpath at 6.30am in the morning.

What did she think was going to happen if a faster runner came up behind her?

Were there any witnesses?

Chocmudpie · 26/04/2017 17:06

She must have previously had a bad experience to carry that in the first place and to actually use it! Either that or she is a very nervous lady
Feel bad for your OH though!
You could try hair dye removal stuff? Not ideal on the skin but if he desperately needs it off?

elodie2000 · 26/04/2017 17:06

He must have been pretty close to her. She must have been terrified, poor woman.

JennyOnAPlate · 26/04/2017 17:07

I don't know how to get the dye off (what an extreme reaction from the woman!) but wondered if it would be worth your dh speaking to the police about what happened in case the woman has called them?

elodie2000 · 26/04/2017 17:07

Having said that, your poor DH. O don't know what he could have done differently!

Mojit0 · 26/04/2017 17:08

Thankyou. I hadn't thought of hair dye remover. Might see if I can get some from the hairdresser now. Thanks!

I hope it was reported to the police ?

elodie2000 · 26/04/2017 17:08

I second your DH calling non emergency police.

Wando1986 · 26/04/2017 17:09

Go buy a box of 'Live' platinum blonde hairdye. Should take it off 👌

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 26/04/2017 17:09

It's odd that she reacted that way...Confused

Sweepingchange · 26/04/2017 17:10

Oh dear. Poor woman. And your poor op!

Are you sure he is not a bank robberGrin Wink

Could you try something slightly abrasive to get it off like an exfoliator, something from Boots, or make a paste yourself with sea salt and/or oats and warm water?

OldGuard · 26/04/2017 17:11

That's so weird - is she running with die spray in her hand at the ready - finger on trigger so to speak ? She must be seriously traumatized to do that

Neverknowing · 26/04/2017 17:12

She assaulted your husband, she could get in a lot of trouble for even carrying that. That's awful behaviour scared or not, he should definitely be calling the police.

MoiraRosesMeltdown · 26/04/2017 17:12

What about that Jolen cream bleach for facial hair? It once sorted a fake tan disaster for me

PossumInAPearTree · 26/04/2017 17:12

Yy to telling the police if only because she may have reported it as an attempted attack.

AdaColeman · 26/04/2017 17:13

Baby oil
Baby/wet wipes
Salt/other gritty body scrub

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2017 17:13

It could have been a lot worse ... suppose it triggered an asthma attack ? Suppose the OPs DH got pushed into the water ? Suppose it injured his eyes ?

As it is, it's already assault and battery - serious criminal offences.

SistersOfPercy · 26/04/2017 17:13

DD carries a can of it as she finishes work in the early hours some days, if it is the same stuff then nothing will remove it for 7 days according to the listing.

AsthmaQ · 26/04/2017 17:13

Please contact police - they will be able to get the dye off but it's also important there is follow up to this and to make sure your DH isn't the centre of some attempted rape manhunt.

LostMySanityCanIBorrowYours · 26/04/2017 17:14

I agree about calling the non emergency police number.

If the woman is that afraid/traumatised that she feels the need to assault innocent men before they have the opportunity to attack her, then she needs help.

Next time she might spray someone less understanding than your DH.

Raggydolly3 · 26/04/2017 17:16

Contact the police OP, she could get it in someone's eyes next time.
Also if she is that scared why would you be running on a tow path at that time

SummerHouse · 26/04/2017 17:16

Horrible thing to think but just reading this made me think it would be hard to spray a fast runner under the circumstances of him just running past. And why would she? Could be that she actually sprayed him maliciously or he has something he is not saying perhaps I should not have watched three episodes of line of duty back to back

SistersOfPercy · 26/04/2017 17:18

she could get in a lot of trouble for even carrying that

No, she couldn't. It's perfectly legal.
