I'm not anti sunbeds all together. I've used them myself. But my dd (16) has just informed me that her friends are using the sunbeds. 18 is the legal age to use a sunbed commercially. And for good reason. Not my kids so probably non of my business but it's annoyed me that this shop is being so irresponsible. Apparently they dont ask for ID. Not as if these girls look particularly old for their age. UIBU to shop them? If not who do I report them to?

Trading standards.

Please do report it, and stop using the sunbirds. When you've lost s friend to melanoma before they were 30 you'd steer well clear.

I'd consider reporting.

If they let the law slide regarding under 18s it would make me also wonder what else they would happily let slide.

It's no under 18s for a reason.

Yes, do report.

Thanks for your replies. I'm sorry you lost your friend @PurpleDaisies to something so preventable. I'm not a massive user. Just usually before a holiday or big event I need to look good for. I will definitely report it now. I was only undecided In case I put innocent people out of a job. It may not be all staff not asking for ID and a fine can hit small businesses hard.
Does anyone no if the same rules apply as in retail? Ie. If I was to serve a minor in a shop with age restricted items. It would be me myself who would face prosecution. Not the shop.

Good luck with reporting them - hope the shop is dealt with harshly.

I understand that cigarette packets now come with rather graphic cancer images on them, perhaps sun bed users should have to look at photos of melanoma and post op before being able to use a sunbed? They are really dangerous.

stoplickingthetelly · 25/04/2017 19:24

Yes, please do report it x

Funnyfarmer · 25/04/2017 19:26

Maybe they could have them up on the walls of the shop or in the cubicles.?
There's written health warnings but visual ones would be much more effective. I know people who use them every day. And have done for years. I can't see the need to looked like a frazzled potato everyday tbh. Even if it wasn't for the health concerns. Not a good look

There are two legal products that are proven to increase cancer risk when used according to the instructions. Sunbeds are one of them.

Report to trading standards, same as you would someone selling cigs to kids.
