Not a real AIBU, but im posting here for traffic!

Ive just joined the gym, im seriously unfit. I have tried to lose weight but without exercise it hasnt worked, and ive recently had a kick up the backside because I have abused my body so much that my body is suffering.
I have high blood pressure and the drs recently sent me for blood tests, it appears that somehow i dont have diabetes, thyroid issues, or even cholestoral issues, but I also have PCOS... my point is, my body is showing signs of being under strain because of my weight.

I was 21 stone at the beginning of the year, im currently at 19 10.

So I have realised how unfit i am and its driven the point home more that actually I need to sort myself out.

I have cleaned up my eating and I am wanting to sort an exercise routine, and hopefully this will help my body to heal as i lose weight.

I have a small work out plan arranged. it consists of 10 minutes walking at a moderate pace on the treadmill, 5 minutes on the stair machine, a bit of high intensity stuff, and a small bit of weight training. Ive also signed up for loads of aqua classes. I have one most days, 2 on some others. I really enjoy these classes.

I would like to explore a few other options where classes are concerned, has anyone here had the same kind of experience?

I can just see myself going a bit mad if i havent got any other classes to mix it up with.

any thoughts would be really appreciated. im scared of the gym classes all being too much, and me falling about, gasping and people staring.

thanks everyone!

Well done you. I have also done similar, I also like cross trainer which is like running but easier and good for the joints. Try Zumba, good fun and you can go at your own pace. Keep it up...

Well done, it sounds like you're working hard. I really enjoy Zumba and clubbercise as the music really motivates me and the classes are good fun. I've tried body balance too and although it's low impact I really struggle.

Well done, you said "I was 21 stone at the beginning of the year, im currently at 19 10". That is brilliant. Tell yourself how you are doing well and then listen to the people at the gym who tell you about the equipment and how to use it. Go slowly and build up what you do and ask the staff if you need advice.

You are doing incredible to lose the weight you have and still have the motivation to go to the gym.

Have you asked any of the pts at the gym if they can recommend any other classes to you?

oh post where you fucking like OP - ignore the thread police Hmm

well done on the weight loss

I would get someone to show you all the equipment and what it does - and find the things you like

As for classes they should follow from the stuff you like - if you find you enjoy free weights try body pump - running - try spinning etc

but get a really good induction!

If you can afford it, get a personal trainer. They can tailor a weight loss plan for you and give you routines to do on your own.
Cardio classes are good for weight loss. Zumba and clubbexcercise are fun and make you sweat without being too extenuous.
Once you start dropping the weight, start toning with weights and classes like bodypump. Posture is key to avoid injuries so don't load too much weight at first!

Also add the cross trainer to your routine. It's very complete and doesn't put too much strain on your joints.

Enjoy getting fitter, and healthier Wink
