London Marathon - I appear to have something in my eye

One of the runners started collapsing 200m from the finish. His legs were uncontrolled and he fell. Another runner stopped and picked him up and was pointing at the finish line and urging him on and between him and a marshall managed to get him to the finish line.

I must be hormonal or something, it was just so, so lovely.

Well done to all the runners today, especially my friends husband running in memory of their little boy. You are all bloody incredible.

You aren't hormonal. It is lovely. I once went and watched by the roadside and it's the most uplifting thing.

Matthew Rees was the Swansea runner that stopped to help.
My kids were screaming at the telly for the full 200 yards and exploded when he crossed the line

Mathew Rees of Swansea Harriers - what an absolute gentleman. That was incredible to see.

PatMullins Sun 23-Apr-17 13:12:52

It was a beautiful moment smile

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom Sun 23-Apr-17 13:12:54

That is really, really lovely.

Aw wow I'm watching the old firm game since 12 and missed that how lovely. Well done Matthew Rees and well done the guy he helped finish.

<sniff>

I watched that and thought how dusty my parents living room is. Well done to all of them!

Hulababy Sun 23-Apr-17 13:14:26

It was lovely wasn't it?

That Swansea runner was such a lovely kind man, stopping to help the struggling man - possibly sacrificing his own PB or whatever too. Selfless genuine act.

There was a sudden stench of raw onions and my eyes flooded, jst coincided with the guys legs collapsing. Huge respect to Matthew Rees for sacrificing his time to aid another runner.

MycatsaPirate Sun 23-Apr-17 13:17:44

Just awe inspiring. I love that this country mainly has lovely people who will stop to help others.

Also Mary Ketainy who beat the world record this morning. My god, I was shouting her on to the finish line. She was amazing!

I'm in tears still about it.

What an absolute gent that runner is, sacrificing his own race to help a total stranger.

Really hope the poor bloke is ok, he did not look well at all.

Hulababy Sun 23-Apr-17 13:18:10

Lots of hashtag comments appearing on Twitter about him too.

MrsSthe3rd Sun 23-Apr-17 13:18:35

I must be hormonal too - that was so emotional to watch.

And the man helping even shook his head, when another marshall, who, most probably offered his help, came over too.

Truly lovely to see.

Nix32 Sun 23-Apr-17 13:18:42

Sobbing here too!

MycatsaPirate Sun 23-Apr-17 13:29:23

Yes Mrs I saw that too. He was clearly determined to help him to the finish line.

Honestly when they showed that poor guy hardly able to co-ordinate his legs to walk I thought he wasn't going to make it. It was so hard to watch him struggling.

MrsSthe3rd Sun 23-Apr-17 13:32:03

Hope we get an update on him!

Hulababy Sun 23-Apr-17 13:32:59

and well done to David Wyeth, the runner who was struggling, too.

ludothedog Sun 23-Apr-17 13:33:24

Horrible to see that man struggling so much but lovely to see such camaraderie. I'm sure there are many such stories from today. Well done that man!

absolutely no tears here sniff

How lovely. 🍻 Matthew Rees

I'd like to know how the bloke in his 80's got on. Totally put me to shame.

BeyondUser24601 Sun 23-Apr-17 13:34:06

Gosh you think you're hormonal - I'm tearing up just reading it here!! 😭

StillStayingClassySanDiego Sun 23-Apr-17 13:34:59

I can't watch when you see someone in distress like that, he looked awful, very kind gesture by Matthew Rees.

Hope the bloke's ok.

bumbleymummy Sun 23-Apr-17 13:39:15
