To be fed up of "me too"?

Any time i say to DP "I'm tired" or my foot is sore" or anything about me, it's met with a "me too" or "no I didn't sleep well" or "my spine has fallen out"

It's so fucking annoying! Like I'm not allowed to be the only one who's under the weather.

I've started doing it back to him but he doesn't notice.

Anyone else?

Why yes. Its very annoying. Like when you are in labour but your partner says their back hurts too

JustMumNowNotMe Thu 20-Apr-17 12:16:37

Me! My DH does this and it really fucks me off! I feel your pain!

popperdoodles Thu 20-Apr-17 12:18:21

My dh does this sometimes. I think he's trying to say he understands how I feel but in reality I just want him to say "oh dear, poor you".

Nickynackynoodle Thu 20-Apr-17 12:23:26

Exactly popper I'm not playing top trumps!

x2boys Thu 20-Apr-17 12:27:12

my dh actually did this when i was in labour with ds1 wizzy[ he had bad tonsillitis because he couldnt be arsed going to the Dr]And all the midwives were fussing around him but yeah i have a cold at the moment its just a bad cold but i have felt pretty rough and dh doesnt want me to pass it on to him as his would be so much worse...

OdinsLoveChild Thu 20-Apr-17 12:28:54

Mine does that. He will even take to his bed in sympathy of my blinding headache/other illness. At least thats what I tell myself anyway because he couldn't possibly fein illness just to try and be worse than me surely? hmm

scaryclown Thu 20-Apr-17 12:28:57

I'm sure when people do this, they are trying to empathise, not compete - they are trying to say 'I hear you, here's the experience I'm drawing on, please elucidate'..

Dumbo412 Thu 20-Apr-17 12:30:13

Wizzy, please tell me this didn't actually happen?! Wow!

ShatnersBassoon Thu 20-Apr-17 12:31:43

I thought this was going to be about Granny Murray!

I do think it's just people trying to demonstrate their empathy, and perhaps an attempt to stop the conversation there. DH would probably claim to have period pain if he thought it would put a lid on my grumbling.

OhMrBadger Thu 20-Apr-17 12:37:42

I currently have a chest infection. Every time I cough, DH coughs too. Followed by a loud "Gah!"

Underparmummy Thu 20-Apr-17 12:39:27

YES!!!

I am never allowed to be the tired/injured/ill one.

Also, he is NEVER not tired/injured/ill. All the time. Then I'm accused of not giving him enough sympathy!

Hereward1332 Thu 20-Apr-17 12:39:43

So you're complaining that DP has the same problems as you, and asking a group of strangers is they also have the same issue? Isn't that what you're annoyed about in the first place?

Nickynackynoodle Thu 20-Apr-17 12:41:23

hmm

I'll put it down to the empathy thing then... can't believe the labour ones, that might make my head pop!

QueenofallIsee Thu 20-Apr-17 12:41:38

DP does this! I don't think it is on purpose but NO ONE can be ill in our house without him coming out in sympathy!

HerOtherHalf Thu 20-Apr-17 12:42:04

You do realise that you are implicitly hoping to get lots of people effectively responding "me too"? A touch ironic perhaps. smile

grannytomine Thu 20-Apr-17 12:42:24

Yes I'm part of this club.

1bighappyfamily Thu 20-Apr-17 12:43:46

My DH CONSTANTLY "has a cold coming on." I can be dying of pneumonia (exaggerating for effect) and he will still be worse as he has a "cold coming on."

I feel your pain OP

TotalPineapple Thu 20-Apr-17 12:44:10

I'm still bf ing our 7 mo 3 times a night. You would not believe how tired my DH (who sleeps through) is.

scaryclown Thu 20-Apr-17 12:46:18

You should say in a really meek voice 'please be strong for me.. pleeeese'

MoonfaceAndSilky Thu 20-Apr-17 12:46:43

Yes my DH does this all of the time, drives me mad Granny Murray annoys me too, ha me too!!!

stoopido Thu 20-Apr-17 12:50:27

I know how you feel. I feel like I'm never "allowed" to be ill. My DH also has a sudden chest infection manifest whenever he needs to do a bit of DIY.

SemiNormal Thu 20-Apr-17 12:50:47

I currently have a chest infection. Every time I cough, DH coughs too. Followed by a loud "Gah" - I'd have to leave the house and not return until I was well again, this would seriously piss me off grin

SunsetGrigio Thu 20-Apr-17 12:52:13

my spine has fallen out grin

My OH somehow has all my pregnancy symptoms hmm And he doesn't get a bog standard sore throat like me, he only gets tonsillitis...

problembottom Thu 20-Apr-17 12:53:09

Oh yes DP is like this, he can't stand me being ill but with him we've got to the stage where I only allow him to complain about one imaginary health problem a day (he's a marathon runner and fighting fit).

We once had a weekend in Barcelona, I had been feeling a bit peaky before we went and deteriorated rapidly... he kept saying I was definitely looking better. I ended up in A&E when I got home as I was coughing up blood. He apologised.
