about changing a nappy on a cafe table?

So, I usually grab something quick and cheap for lunch but decided to treat myself to a nice baked spud in an art gallery cafe.

Half way through said spud, and perusing MN, I looked up to see that the people on the table nearby were changing a baby's nappy on the table where they'd just eaten.

My face must have been a bit of a picture because one of the women looked at me as if to say 'what?'. Feeling I had to justify myself, I said 'it's just that it's a bit grim changing a baby's nappy on a cafe table'.

The woman doing the changing asked if I was a mum. Instead of saying 'what difference would that make?', I said I had two children. She said she didn't realise I was watching(?). I said it was more of a hygiene thing, but yes, it had put me off my lunch somewhat.

She replied that it was 'only a bit of wee'.

So, was I being unreasonable hygiene thing and it is 'only a bit of wee', or is this utterly grim?

For clarity, this was in an area out of sight of the staff and I was the only other customer in that area.

The loos were ten paces away, full changing facilities and pristine.

She's absolutely vile, partly for changing the nappy on the table but mainly for the "are you a mum" aka the belittling of childless women, as though they have less right to not want pissy nappies being thrown about while they're eating.

That's pretty grim.
Although I was having a picnic yesterday and baby was screaming with a full nappy an wouldn't sit still so I changed his nappy on the picnic blanket, wiped my hands with a wet wipe and carried on eating.
I didn't consider that other people eating could see me an might b put off their food. It just needed to be done.

I am a Mum, relevant because the women it in the situation asked, IMO it is digusting and I would never do this in cafe.

She's gross, but not quite as gross as the woman who changed a shitty nappy in a pub where people were eating Sunday lunch and then left the shitty nappy on a chair for the rest of the time we were there.

I'd have said something to the staff, but they were rushed off their feet and we had somewhere to be, so weren't around much longer (thankfully).

That is rank. I had twins, I never once changed a baby in such a place. Nor in people's living rooms, nor in front of guests. There is no excuse.

I saw a mum doing that in the m&s cafe. She was waaay across the room and I could tell it wasn't 'just wee'. Had me gagging on my scone (and mumsnetting like mad).

I don't think it would bother me if she'd done it on the chair/bench, but it is an odd choice to do it in a table when there are good changing facilities nearby.

Wouldn't bother me. I doubt a wee nappy would touch the surface of the table and contaminate things and they get wiped between customers or i would wipe it with a wet wipe if i did it.

I have changed a wet nappy on my lap in a cafe once and at the last MN meet up i changed my baby's nappy on the pub table. We were in a function room tho so only the MNers could see and they assured me they wouldn't start a thread about me!

With her reaction I'd make a big song and dance about H&S and complain to cafe manager.
