AIBU to remind everyone to make sure they are registered to vote?

Please go to //www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to make sure you are registered and can vote on the 8th of June.

This is especially important if you are an overseas voter because declarations only last 12 months, so even if you have previously registered you may not be any longer.

Because the election is so soon, there isn't a lot of time to waste.

Still can't vote, despite the Conservatives pledging to allow overseas voters to vote if they won the in their 2014 manifesto....

Overseas voters can vote if they left the UK less than fifteen years ago allegretto. Sorry if that's not the case for you.

Please vote all, even if you think it's a wasted vote.

The 27% who did not vote in the referendum may have thought that and look what a mess we are in now.

Altered - unfortunately not! I am actually ok in theory about not voting in a general election but still smarting about not voting in the referendum and having to bear the consequences anyway!

My postal vote didn't arrive for the brexit referendum and I'm still annoyed.

While I was happy to not vote in previous GE this one is too important to miss.

Oh no altered :( sorry to hear that you couldn't vote in the EU referendum.

Good point about reminding everyone to register as well, thanks. I normally have a postal vote, but changed it today on the website to register to vote locally. Does anyone know roughly how long I'll wait until hearing back about registering to vote locally?

For anyone who hasn't done it yet, it only takes five minutes. You need your NI number and your passport number (if you are overseas) to register.

They'll email a postal vote application to you straight away and you can scan it and send it back by email.

Plunkette - I've just registered, but I'm a bit confused. I'd like to vote in person rather than having a postal vote, so is there anything I need to do now?

Not sure how long it takes Paris but for postal voting I was emailed a form immediately which needs to be sent back to the local board.

It says on the form that it needs to arrive at least 11 days before or 12 days for new registrations.

Did you select email as your preferred form of communication? If so you should have been emailed any forms required straight away.

Did you receive confirmation that you have successfully registered Paris?

You should be able to find the email address for your local Electoral Registration Officer online. They'll get back to you on any queries.

If you've selected 'vote in person' you should receive a Polling card through the post just before the election though.

I refuse to be on the electoral register anymore because I don't want to be called up for jury duty ever again! The fact I have no one else to look after my child or that I am pregnant is irrelevant to a judge.
We moved house since Brexit and I'm not registering here.

I don't understand. The outcome could have been the same, depending on how that 27% voted?

Plunkette I had an email through yesterday saying that I'd had chosen a postal vote, which was a bit odd, but I phoned them up today to let them know, and they said to drop them an email to cancel the postal vote so I could vote in person instead.

I need to do a postal vote as we'll be out of the country on the day of the election - but it seems I have to find a printer to print the form for us to fill out and send back!! Was hoping I could register electronically (for one-off postal vote)!

.....and somewhat ridiculously I like to physically go to cast my vote. I have no control over my postal vote - what if it gets lost!!! albeit I'd never know

MooMooKerchu you also have the option to vote by proxy, so it wouldn't be you physically casting the vote, but someone would on your behalf.

Just make sure it is someone who would respect your voting wishes. I think it is also supposed to be a close relative if possible.

Whew, CheerfulMuddler! That would be a very tight registration deadline. Still, no time to lose.
