So, tonight we decided to have a BBQ. Bought all food drinks etc. Came to light the BBQ and heard a hissing noise. Realised the connector was leaking gas, could smell it too. My DH jammed the connector down as shown in pic attached. Are we all going going to be blown up or shall we just cook quickly and turn it off? Got friends coming round from next caravan and worried they might smell the gas!

TURN IT OFF NOW

Let's see , turn it off you'll have to make other food arrangements

Don't turn it off, small risk of horrible mulitation and burns and death from gas explosion

Hard

Seriously, an exploding gas canister is about as safe as a bomb. Firemen won't go within 50m of one .

Turn it off now.

Some people (not you OP) are fucking idiots.

Used to work in A+E. Treated someone with the most horrific burns after doing something similar. They didn't survive.

When the local camping shop was subjected to an araon attack the first two firetrucks ignored the burning building and concentrated on keeping the gas cannister store from going up.
They then evacuated around half a village when the ambient temp started hiking. Because of the risk. Scary stuff. I never really gave gungho fixes whilst camping much thought until then.

MIL's caravan wouldn't be our first choice for a BBQ and we werent in control of gas canister. Feel guilty but scared if anyone knows what I mean re MIL trying to be kind.

So you're going to risk getting blown up?

There's no helping some people.

Seriously, this is not a time for macho 'it'll be fine' BS. You mention a nearby caravan, are you in a caravan park? If so, it's not only your own lives you are putting at risk it's all those around you. Caravans are engulfed in SECONDS and families inside will be dead.

Sorry but stupidity like this really pisses me off. Why do you get to put the lives of others at very real risk?

You don't mess around with gas. It doesn't give you a warning you know, it won't start to gently smoulder and give you a chance to turn it off. It will just explode. Like a bomb. TURN IT THE FUCK OFF.

It doesn't matter if he thinks she's being kind, the damage these things can do if they blow is devastating, in the true sense of the word. Even if you have to pretend to be neurotic about "stuff like this" and laugh it off, you have to turn that gas off, it really isn't safe.

I feel that this is a prime example of the argument that women ignore their gut instinct to avoid being seen as rude.

Do not use the bloody BBQ, I think MIL would be far more hurt if you turned into a fireball using her BBQ than saying, I'm sorry I'm not 100% sure it's safe because of the hissing!

Have you seated the value correctly and turned the knob round to secure it all?

Waggamamma · 17/04/2017 17:43

Omg 😲 you don't fuck around with gas. Please just turn it off and get some chips instead of BBQ tonight.

JeeZo. I'm normally quite laid back but this is just dangerous.

Er - whilst I agree the picture is showing a potentially highly dangerous situation and it shouldn't be used like that........

The cnnector/valve on mine can be a bit sticky - sometimes it leaks once on - the trick is to undo it and do it up again (assuming it's one of those bayonet types) this always cures it and stops the gas leak without using any heath robinson arrangements.
