hand washing

AIBU to think full grown adults should know how to wash their hands properly. It astounds me that some people still do it wrong, it's so simple. You get your hands wet then add soap, rub/lather all over your hands THEN rinse it off.

Yeah I see loads of people put soap on and then immediately stick their hands under the water! My 3yo does that but at least I'm teaching her not too.

in public toilets I get soap first, then a little water for a lather and then rinse off.
this to minimise splashes.

I always wonder about the people who put soap on dry hands, and the people who just use water. I don't wash my hands in public toilets though.

You've missed out the bit about drying the hands. Without this, all the scrubbing and soap counts for little.

I'm astounded by the number of people who don't wash their hands after a wee on MN.

Even people in third world countries with water shortages wash their hands after a wee.

Pinkandwhite
I don't wash my hands in public toilets though.

Why not?

I don't like the soap they have. If it's a posh toilet in a naice restaurant or cafe I will but mostly it's cheap and drying and leaves my hands dry.

So you have dirty hands instead? Yuck.

I can't get too worked up about it Captain!

I don't always wash my hands in public toilets either, sometimes I think my hands will get more dirty. I do carry anti bacterial hand wash though for those times and I am really not someone who is over zealous about cleanliness and hygiene.

In public toilets as soon as you touch the door handle to get out you might as well have not bothered washing your hands

I still wash my hands then use sanitiser once I'm out of the room

Our local shopping centre has new toilets and there is no door at the entrance/exit -it's great

I live in a developing country i.e. not the UK and the number of people who don't know how to wash their hands is disgusting. So many people either don't bother at all, splash on a little water only, wash very thoroughly but only with water and all other weird combinations.

But after failing to wash their hands some of them will then be weirdly picky about opening the bathroom door and will grab a piece of tissue to touch the handle with.

I get ill so much and i think this is the reason why! Disgusting...

I've spent a lot of hours over the years lurking in office / public toilets waiting to be sick due to having stomach migraines. I'd estimate that at least 3/4 of women don't use soap and scrub their hands together for more than 2 seconds, and about 1/4 don't wash their hands at all. There are an awful lot of women who do a fingertip rinse and that's it.

I've only seen one or two people in total follow this recommended procedure: www.nhs.uk/Livewell/homehygiene/Pages/how-to-wash-your-hands-properly.aspx

Pinkandwhiteblossoms so you go to the toilet and either hold your penis to urinate or wipe your vulval area with tissue after urninating then carry on without washing your hands?

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 16/04/2017 12:37

Yes, Penfold, that is correct.

I can't get worked up about soap or water on first just so long as soap is used and rubbed across the whole hand and rinsed off and dried.

I find people who use alcohol gel instead of hand washing disgusting. The bottle alone must be crawling with germs.

Pink happy to own this but I find that quite grim.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 16/04/2017 13:45

Probably is. But I do piss like a racehorse and I'd have no hands left if I washed them every single time. I just can't really get worked up about it. I am a firm believer in germs being good for you :)

Eugh I don't think your germs are much good for anyone Pinkandwhite.

Keep them to yourself.

I put soap on to my dry hands. Shoot me.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 16/04/2017 13:58

But you touch door handles, card machines, put your hand in self serve cutlery and napkin dispensers and touch lots of other surfaces that other people do? I didn't think you were putting your fingers in people's mouths Hmm

Just wash your dirty hands. If they get dry and cracked dry them properly and use hand cream.
