DH texts and drives sometimes. He has managed to not get into any accidents (yet...) but yesterday he almost hit a car stopped in front of us because he was texting angry

I have told him multiple times that I am not comfortable with him texting while I'm in the car but he just told me he never forced me to get in the car with him. AIBU to ask him to stop texting and driving??

It's against the law, so, yeah, he should stop.

NewIdeasToday Sat 15-Apr-17 14:33:18

I would just refuse to get in the car with him if he ever did it again.

Jaynebxl Sat 15-Apr-17 14:34:19

Tell him he can dictate the text to you and you can type it into his phone if it's that urgent.

NurseButtercup Sat 15-Apr-17 14:34:38

It's now illegal to text and drive points and a fine. Google it and show your DH if that doesn't make him stop well...let the police catch him.

NavyandWhite Sat 15-Apr-17 14:34:41

What a knob.

Softkitty2 Sat 15-Apr-17 14:35:12

Do you have children in the car when he does this?

I hope he gets caught by the police doing it.

Selfish bastard. Does he realise he can kill people and ruin lives?!

humblesims Sat 15-Apr-17 14:35:29

he's an idiot. If he doesnt realise that his actions could result in the death of others and himself and you then he's an idiot and shouldnt be allowed to drive. I would not get in a car with him.

FannyWisdom Sat 15-Apr-17 14:35:41

Photo him and report it.

Better he has the 6 points and fine than hurting someone.

redshoeblueshoe Sat 15-Apr-17 14:39:51

His texts must be amazing if they are worth dying for

SelfObsessionHoney Sat 15-Apr-17 14:40:54

He sounds like a fucking idiot and precisely the type of person who needs his liscence revoking.

MrsDoylesTeabags Sat 15-Apr-17 14:42:53

What's so important to him that he has to break the law and put himself, you and other road users at risk?

gamerchick Sat 15-Apr-17 14:43:33

Does he know it's illegal and apparently bizzies are riding buses to catch people doing it?

Hope he's caught tbh.

HighwayDragon1 Sat 15-Apr-17 14:46:07

6 points and a £200 fine, and you know, the possibility he could kill someone. Don't get in the car with him, don't let the kids in the car with him.

Highmaintenancefemalestuff Sat 15-Apr-17 14:48:24

I hope he's caught!
This makes me see red more than anything! angry
Nothing he is texting is more important than the safety of his passengers or other road users. If my Dh did this, me or my children would not get in a car with him, luckily he's not a massive twat and doesn't use his phone whilst driving.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic Sat 15-Apr-17 14:48:45

It's been illegal since about 2003. The recent change is just an increase in the consequences to those caught.

harderandharder2breathe Sat 15-Apr-17 14:49:33

He's a twat and I hope he's caught before he kills someone

Refuse to get in the car with him. It could be you he kills

Flossimodo Sat 15-Apr-17 14:51:53

I would refuse to get in the car unless he gave me his phone to put in my bag for the duration. And I would stick to that resolution.

NerrSnerr Sat 15-Apr-17 14:59:07

I would refuse to get in the car or insist I drive. Is he driving children when he's doing it?

Woody67 Sat 15-Apr-17 15:02:27

What Floss said.

Instasista Sat 15-Apr-17 15:05:09

I'm a bit confused by this- do you seriously think you could potentially be unreasonable to ask your husband not to drive whilst texting? Is it a serious question or a rant?

At the same time- you've told him you don't want him to do it- what else can you do? He's obviously not going to listen to you

MrsTerryPratchett Sat 15-Apr-17 15:05:28

Video him and show the police.

IrregularCommentary Sat 15-Apr-17 15:06:04

Your dh is a cunt.

Don't get in the car with him if he does this, and don't let him drive your dc if you have any.

YellowDinosaur Sat 15-Apr-17 15:06:13

Get him to read this and then try and justify any he things messing about with his phone while driving is reasonable...

Take a picture, if possible, of him texting and with the speedo in the background. Then send it to the police.
