To be annoyed at poster who posts about natural remedies

Apologies the title is not very informative, I was not sure how to summarise this.

My DD has a rare bone illness. The effects of the illness vary between individuals but they can be severely debilitating and cause a lot of pain to the point where sufferers have to rely on opiates to get through the day. My DD seems to have a milder version of the condition, but still faces life long operations.

I am a member of an FB group for people with this condition and their families. It is a great resource as the condition is rare and it can be very difficult to find specialists and access help. There is no cure for this condition and treatments can have a very temporary effect but people get some relief from exchanging experiences nonetheless.

A new person has joined, her DC has the condition, and she's flooded the board with posts about natural remedies. She posts 5-10 times a day about the miraculous antioxidant effects of tumeric and other shite. Today she posted about how 97% of cancers are caused by lifestyle factors. My best friend has stage 4 breast cancer and I want to throttle this poster for putting up such crap.

This is a group for people with horrific amounts of pain and suffering in their lives. A group for parents of children that face this suffering in their future. Being told that if only I give my DC some fennel leafs it will all go away gives me the rage.

I know I can block her posts and will do, but that's not the point.

She sounds like a twat, can the mods not have a word and tell her to knock off the snake oil shite?
I must admit to being super sceptical that her child has the same condition but then I am a suspicious cow

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Some remedies can be helpful in some cases. (I took some when I had joint pain.)
But to suggest them as a cure all and even to suggest people have caused their own cancer? Fuck that's stupid. And offensive.

YANBU, if the mods dont do something the group will be flooded with that kind of crap.

No doubt she'll be fit to sell one of her natural miracle cures for a price tag if you just 'PM me hun xx' I doubt she'll be on the group for long.

Oh I hate people talking such bullshit. Fair enough if you want to pretend it works on yourself, but don't preach to others about something that has no evidence of working.

Fuck natural remedies, I have horrendous arthritis and need proper drugs.
I'm afraid I would have been quite rude if somebody fed me such tosh.

As a sick person or relative of one, it's annoying that people are so taken aback that the person can't be happy, they need a cure and they need one now. Honey and special vinegar it is hmm

I would say some nutrients work, but I wouldn't say they're a cure all.

Im asian. The way i see it is if turmeric, ginger, garlic was the bees knees then the indian subcontinent would be extremely healthy. They aint

Booboostwo Sun 09-Apr-17 21:16:03

I'll report her to the mods. I have never reported anyone before as I believe in telling people to their face (so to speak) if I disagree with them, but I hadn't even considered that her DC may be fictional and the whole thing might be a marketing ploy.

Krispiesquare Sun 09-Apr-17 21:17:45

Is she trying to sell something?

Booboostwo Mon 10-Apr-17 15:33:46

She's been removed from the group. What goes through the mind of someone who spams a group for sufferers of an incurable, extremely painful, debilitating condition?

If only turmeric did cure cancer....

Stupid cow, glad she has been booted. I hope her kid gets real treatment.

Wishing you and this other kid the best.

well done OP, thank you for sparing yourself and the others in the group her BS!

Pisses me off that if these people spent as much time researching and promoting adaptations and inclusion and access services for disabled people it would be more bloody useful than promoting a non sense cure.
