To think if you're going to make a cake for my son's birthday, you don't make one like this!?

I'm guessing it's supposed to be some kind of funny joke but I had a lot of bloody miserable kids who got no cake, especially a very upset 7 year old. All the other parents found it funny (or were just being polite) it was a disaster.

TestingTestingWonTooFree Sun 09-Apr-17 12:40:10

Who made it? In what circumstances?

SpreadYourHappiness Sun 09-Apr-17 12:41:04

What fuckwit decided that was okay?

beatbo Sun 09-Apr-17 12:41:16

So someone offered to make the cake but then actually carved up a watermelon?

StealthPolarBear Sun 09-Apr-17 12:41:23

Actual melon or clever cake?

therootoftheroot Sun 09-Apr-17 12:41:34

well who made it? and why didn't yo know about it?

Twiggy71 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:42:36

So not funny and disappointing for the birthday child.
Who was it that did this alternative cake??

user1491737694 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:42:49

Actual melon...

No she had said that she'd make the cake for his party (I know it was a kind offer and I was planning on giving her some money for it on the day) but she rocks up with this

gamerchick Sun 09-Apr-17 12:42:51

Is it watermelon or a cake that looks like watermelon?

BakerBear Sun 09-Apr-17 12:42:54

It is unusual for a child. I would expect someone on a diet to have a "cake" like that.

However i do think its good to send out a message of you dont need sweet stuff for a party.

givemestrengthandgin Sun 09-Apr-17 12:43:07

What on earth possessed them to make that ? Did you say he loved watermelon?
Or really piss them off beforehand?

gamerchick Sun 09-Apr-17 12:43:52

Xpost.

Yeah I wouldn't be paying her other than the couple of quid for the watermelon.

Twiggy71 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:44:51

I think that birthday cake once a year is no big deal and it doesn't have to be a day promoting healthy food.

seven201 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:44:55

Who is she? Your mum, sister, party guest? WHat did you say when she brought it out? I'd be pissed off!!

SpreadYourHappiness Sun 09-Apr-17 12:45:01

Don't pay her.

DramaInPyjamas Sun 09-Apr-17 12:45:11

Is she a health evangelist? always trying to foist her way of eating ways onto others?

user1491737694 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:45:43

.

StealthPolarBear Sun 09-Apr-17 12:45:52

shock
Your poor son

donadumaurier Sun 09-Apr-17 12:45:52

shock I have no words. Orthorexic vegan? Christian and taking Great Lent very seriously? Are they usually a health freak? Your poor DS, it's one thing telling your child in advance, it's another thing to let them expect a cake and give them fruit. I'm all for healthy eating but come on, it's a child's birthday.

lougle Sun 09-Apr-17 12:46:09

Oh that is sad sad I love a bit of watermelon, but as a child, I can only imagine the disappointment.

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:46:43

Is she a Dirty Dancing fan and just wanted to say she carried a water melon?

user1491737694 Sun 09-Apr-17 12:46:58

Oops, sorry.

It's a cousin of mine but her children and pretty close to mine.

Haha I haven't even paid her for the watermelon! It wasn't a paid arrangement, I was just planning on giving her money for the cake.

StealthPolarBear Sun 09-Apr-17 12:47:08

It's really clever and a good idea for a proper grown up. But I'm nearly 40, my mum still provides my birthday cakes and I'd cry to blow out the candles on this one.
(A recent favourite of mine was a perch pig cake from m and s , mmmm)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys Sun 09-Apr-17 12:47:38

As carved up watermelons go, that's really ace.
As a cake, it's shit

wonkylegs Sun 09-Apr-17 12:47:59

Wtf!
How did it even cross her mind to be an acceptable cake for a 7yo.
I'm too much of a control freak - doing my son's and have done them for friends and always check what they want. They rarely eat much of it but love having something special to blow the candles out on, so feel for your son.
I'm not sure how I'd react if someone presented this to me.
