To never shop with ASDA again?

and wonder what to do about this?
I bought cheese on my last order. The big smart price block. Its a cheese that isn't supposed to go moldy, particularly when still weeks in date. I get home delivery as I have a disability which makes it very difficult for me to even walk to the bus stop 100m from my home let alone to do my shopping.
I digress.
2 days after my order was delivered I went to go and get a cheese sandwich, picked the cheese up out of the fridge and the entire underside(Which is actually the front but it was face down in the fridge) was completely coated in mold, big green/blue circles of the stuff. It has never happened before when purchasing it. I've done so without incident for months.
I will try to add photo, but the BBE clearly states 26/04/2017, I originally discovered the moldyness of it last week 2 days after the order was delivered, I don't think it was moldy at the time as I had put it away and it looked ok.
Anyhow,
I messaged Asda immediately about this. I kept the cheese in a plastic bag in the fridge in case I needed it for refund. (after an incident with lidl over similar when I was told I could dispose of the food and packaging but then later told I couldn't have a refund due to not having the food item still).
A couple of days later I'd heard nothing so messaged them on twitter where I was told to return the item to my nearest store for a refund asap. This was late ish on Tues (I hope you're still following!) today I've felt well enough to go to Asda, as mentioned I have a disability. I had to take a taxi for most of the journey still. Only to be told that I'm not allowed a refund as I have no receipt. I pointed out I'd have no receipt regardless due to the fact that I ordered online but could log in to my asda account there and then via my phone and tell them my order numbers and show them I genuinely did order it. This wasn't good enough and I was told to come back tomorrow, The duty manager of something or other would've needed to be there to oversee the refund. I said I didn't really feel that was the best way to go about it and I wanted a resolution ASAP, or at least a clear way to a resolution. I explained politely that I couldn't commit to coming back down tomorrow due to my disabilities which mean that I get very tired easily and frequently and cannot walk far at all even with a walking stick. I was then told to wait for a call back and that they couldn't keep my moldy cheese nor tell me for certain that I wouldn't need it again. So I'm now home £10 out of pocket for the sake of a just under £4 block of cheese that isn't fit for purpose that I still unfortunately have.
WIBU to just not bother with the refund anyway and to just never shop with them again? anyone have similar experiences with them? They've been good to me until now and I quite like their price promises... Wonder if I'm being too harsh. I feel a bit messed about to be honest, which has bothered me more than the moldy cheese

I think you need to let it go. As you said, you paid more for the taxi than you did for the cheese.

Yes I probably will. Just not sure whether to use them again is all. I do feel a bit ridiculous for spending more to get the refund than the refund itself is Blush

I can't believe they didn't just refund you the £4. Similarly I can't believe you went to the expense and hassle of returning.

Yes I know you aren't at fault and yes I know that if everyone just 'put up and shut up' then the supermarkets get away with it but in your circumstances OP, I would have chased an online refund.

I use Asda delivery and on the app you can request a refund if it's within three days of delivery. I did it last week when I had a few items missing and a few times if I have noticed something is close to its use by date. They have always refunded and never asked me to return items to store.
Have you tried the customer service number on your invoice rather than your local store? I have found them to be very helpful also, although they sometimes put a voucher on your account rather than refund your card.

Switch to someone else. Tesco have refunded me for unacceptable quality after sending photos. Ocado just seem to take your word for it and refund via a report on the app.

Do they not give you any paperwork at all when they deliver your order? Seems a bit strange. Sainsburys give you an itemised till receipt when they deliver.

CrunchyMum In fairness I have to go to lots of hassle and expense to get anywhere with no car and an inability to walk very far, so it doesn't seem out there to me, but when I did realize the difference while typing this I do feel a bit silly. I didn't realize you could do an online refund Blush
Will try ocado in future

Why did they need a receipt, surely your block of cheese said Asda smart price which I am pretty sure you can only buy in Asda where is the common sense???

I also wouldn't of paid £10 for a taxi to just return a £4 item as imo it's not worth it.

I'd let it go and order my shopping from somewhere else from now on

You can request a refund both using the website or the app.

Any cheese will go mouldy. I don't know what you mean bu isn't supposed to, unless its not actually cheese at all?

Yes it said Asda smart price on the block, which you can only buy at asda lol.
Perhaps they thought I'd nicked it! Grin Grin
I couldn't find the invoice, I'm bad at keeping things like that safe, But could've quite easily supplied invoice number and proof of purchase via my phone.

Dingdong I mean some cheeses are moldy aren't they? like, posh ones? Sorry if I'm wrong. this is just bog standard red Leicester and as far as I know not supposed to go moldy certainly while in date.
Tobolsk I don't think you're strange some people do, I wouldn't though. It was the whole side of the block too. If it was just a corner or something I certainly would've been tempted.

I have stopped using Asda online for fresh stuff as the quality was just crap or they would send me short date stuff. However never had a problem getting refunded for these items just requested a refund via the website they didn't require pics. Had the money back in account very quickly.

Some are designed to be mouldy. Buy any cheese can go off, obviously. It obviously wasn't stored properly.

I had a block of cheese from Lidl go mouldy while unopened and in date, they told me to take it back and swap it for a new one, no quibbles at all.

If I have a problem with my Tesco delivery I phone them and they refund any faulty or missing items on the spot. They never query it and are always polite and apologetic.

Had you opened it before you noticed it was mouldy?

I had a problem with cheese going mouldy very quickly in my fridge, and someone told me its because the mould spores were living in it and getting into any open pack of cheese.
I started keeping cheese in a tupperware and it's not been a problem since

So if you've had any sort of stilton (or just mouldy cheese), you're going to have the same issue with new cheese

Unless it was still sealed from the shop, in which case it was a problem with the cheese!

I've never had a hassle-free Asda delivery so try and avoid them but having said that I've also had problems with Tesco and Iceland so can't say the others are any better. Can't afford Sainsburys and Morrisons don't deliver to my area so can't give any experience on them

I am surprised as, to be honest I return stuf to asda all the time without a receipt and they always without question refund it.

I have even returned a pack of hot cross buns, because it was delivered at a 10pm delivery on the day the expired date expired. No questions asked.

I cannot imagine them doing anything other than straight money back as it is in asda packaging and has expiring date and is mouldy.

While I would say leave it it isn't worth it, I do feel that this is crap service, so I would photograph it and send it to head office customer services, and tell them what crap service they have given and see what happens

Sparechange it was still sealed I hadn't used it at all, In fact its still sealed now (albeit in the bin) as I didn't open it when I spotted the mold.
I don't think i'll pursue the issue further but I'll certainly take my business elsewhere, not just for the cheese being moldy although that is a concern, more that I feel mucked about as I was told to go there ASAP and then told an online delivery couldn't be refunded unless it was by a certain duty manager who wasn't there. Perhaps I'm more pissed than your average person would be due to the sheer effort it takes me to go out, which obviously isn't asda's fault

As another disabled person who's been treated like shit by a big name store - Argos - I'd both publicise this as widely as possible without actually defaming Asda, and also never shop with them again, letting them know it. They only learn by being publicly embarrassed. Tell them you not only want a full refund of your financial loss, you want compensation in recognition of their disgraceful, quite possibly unlawful, treatment of a disabled peron. If the way they've treated you impacts on you more severely because of your disability, than it would a non-disabled person in the same or similar situation, then they've discriminated against you on grounds of disability. Get them by the throat and shake the bastards until it hurts. Publicity!

Dammit. Person, not peron.
