and wonder what to do about this?
I bought cheese on my last order. The big smart price block. Its a cheese that isn't supposed to go moldy, particularly when still weeks in date. I get home delivery as I have a disability which makes it very difficult for me to even walk to the bus stop 100m from my home let alone to do my shopping.
I digress.
2 days after my order was delivered I went to go and get a cheese sandwich, picked the cheese up out of the fridge and the entire underside(Which is actually the front but it was face down in the fridge) was completely coated in mold, big green/blue circles of the stuff. It has never happened before when purchasing it. I've done so without incident for months.
I will try to add photo, but the BBE clearly states 26/04/2017, I originally discovered the moldyness of it last week 2 days after the order was delivered, I don't think it was moldy at the time as I had put it away and it looked ok.
Anyhow,
I messaged Asda immediately about this. I kept the cheese in a plastic bag in the fridge in case I needed it for refund. (after an incident with lidl over similar when I was told I could dispose of the food and packaging but then later told I couldn't have a refund due to not having the food item still).
A couple of days later I'd heard nothing so messaged them on twitter where I was told to return the item to my nearest store for a refund asap. This was late ish on Tues (I hope you're still following!) today I've felt well enough to go to Asda, as mentioned I have a disability. I had to take a taxi for most of the journey still. Only to be told that I'm not allowed a refund as I have no receipt. I pointed out I'd have no receipt regardless due to the fact that I ordered online but could log in to my asda account there and then via my phone and tell them my order numbers and show them I genuinely did order it. This wasn't good enough and I was told to come back tomorrow, The duty manager of something or other would've needed to be there to oversee the refund. I said I didn't really feel that was the best way to go about it and I wanted a resolution ASAP, or at least a clear way to a resolution. I explained politely that I couldn't commit to coming back down tomorrow due to my disabilities which mean that I get very tired easily and frequently and cannot walk far at all even with a walking stick. I was then told to wait for a call back and that they couldn't keep my moldy cheese nor tell me for certain that I wouldn't need it again. So I'm now home £10 out of pocket for the sake of a just under £4 block of cheese that isn't fit for purpose that I still unfortunately have.
WIBU to just not bother with the refund anyway and to just never shop with them again? anyone have similar experiences with them? They've been good to me until now and I quite like their price promises... Wonder if I'm being too harsh. I feel a bit messed about to be honest, which has bothered me more than the moldy cheese
