DPD tried to give my iPhone to a neighbour

AIBU not to book another delivery in these circumstances....

Ordered an iPhone as have to have one for work.
Was told it would be delivered today.
Arranged that DP would be at home to accept said delivery.
This morning, get a text to say couldn't deliver, not in, card left etc.
They even took a picture of 'my' house. Only it isn't my house.
It's a names-only road but only a couple of houses per postcode. This particular house is quite a way down the road, very different name and much nicer than ours

I have had annoying and patronising messages from DPD and Tesco (phone company) about redelivery. Can't seem to contact DPD and speak to a real person and Tesco have yet to respond to my messages.

Would I be at fault, arranging a redelivery, knowing that in all likelihood my neighbour will get a free iPhone?

I appreciate the pressures faced by delivery drivers, but really?!

I did think that uppity and assume them to be decent, but don't know them - a nice opportunity to get to know them. My only concern was if I rearrange and the same thing happens. They'll only try a certain number of times.

If Tesco respond, I might suggest that. Just a pain as it's 40mins away and I'm a bit miffed why I should be inconvenienced after making the arrangements and abiding by them.

when you re-arrange delivery, you can arrange to collect from depot. Is this 'DPD Local' by any chance? Had same shit with them this week. Told them they had gone to the wrong address, wouldn't attempt delivery until Monday and despite instructions they went to the wrong address again
Then they sent a delighted email to say it was ready to collect, over an hour's return journey...

Oh no. This is kind of what I feared. Still, it was a very impressive picture of my neighbour's house. If only they'd spent so much time reading the house name...

Can you get it delivered to work?
Is there a reason you think your neighbour will steal the phone rather than just hang on to it?

Can you go give her a knock, apologise for the card they've posted through her door earlier, say that the delivery company made an error which you realised when they sent a photo of their house, which you're correcting, but if the same should happen tomorrow and if she's home would she mind accepting/refusing. If you have good reason to think your neighbours are thieves maybe if they think delivery company may take their photo it might stop them stealing.

I buy a lot on Amazon and they have a box at checkout to out specific instructions such as "do not leave with a neighbour", you'd think all delivery companies would at least have an option for opting out of keaving with a neighbour.

Sorry, just seen suggestion about work - I work all over the place so not an option. There is probably a solution but I just don't want to have to drive to a depot due to their failures. Will see of Tesco replies to my email...

An email has just pinged through telling me that tomorrow, I will have a delivery of some shoes by.... DPD! Maybe my neighbour would like some new shoes. Might just put a giant arrow in the road. And have some 80s-style gunge at the ready if they actually manage to deliver my shoes.

Can you not choose to get a DPD parcel delivered to a local service point? These are local shops ect. There's about 8 in a 2 mile radius from my house.

I don't understand. You know where the phone is. It's down the road. Why on earth are you going to so much trouble and stress over a redelivery? Drop a note through the neighbour's door and ask them to hang on to it until the weekend.

I know DPD have ballsed up here, but I think it would be massively dishonest of you to ask for another phone when you know where the original one is.

I don't get it. Go to your neighbours and pick up the phone? Then contact the DPD and inform them that they have the wrong house. They neighbours probably don't even know what it is since it should be in a generic brown package.

I had a problem with DPD after ordering something from Asos, I'd chosen next day delivery (granted it was free as it was my first time using the site but otherwise it wouldn't have been) and on the given day I waited... and waited... and waited... while the tracker occasionally updated to say cheerily "there's been a delay with your parcel but we've sorted it now!" and the parcel never made it any further than their first depot, hundreds of miles away from me. I waited a further three days for my "next day delivery", and in that time I found countless scathing reviews of DPD and how absolutely crap they are, that whole thing of taking a photo of the wrong house and saying you weren't in seems to be absolutely rife.

Ring DPD again and when you get the automated menu and options press # and keep pressing it. You will end up being put though to a person.

I took it as OP was saying they didn't know where the phone was, DPD had taken a photo of the wrong house and used it as evidence that the OP was not at home and so they were unable to deliver it to anybody?

I don't think the neighbour has the phone at the moment, although if the OP arranges a redelivery and the neighbour is in she might get one then!

DPD are AWFUL. I had this issue several times where they couldn't understand that "Acacia Avenue" is not the same as "Acacia Road". Unfortunately the people at my number, Acacia Road were not particularly accommodating and in one case had a potential buyer to view their unexpected furniture delivery at the time I knocked on their door!

I now just refuse to do business with companies that use DPD, and I tell them that. I'll use Amazon. Sure I'll pay £1 extra but they will delivery to my local post office. Perfect.

PermanentlyDumfounded but the phone isn't with the neighbour as the neighbour wasn't in today, and may very likely be out again when they next attempt to deliver there. Which then leaves the OP having to collect from a depot which she says is 40 minutes away.

I don't understand, so they tried to deliver it to a neighbours address, neighbours weren't there so they've taken it away again. So all you need to do is let them know they attempted delivery at the wrong address they can't count that as one of their attempts to deliver
