To not like the smell of milk in my cup of tea

I'm just wondering why it isn't always so though. I love my brews but sometimes the smell of milk spoils it. Does anyone else not like it. i've just had one now and there was no smell.

If you can smell it without putting your nose right next to it then I expect your milk is off.

If it's putting you off havebyou tried herbal teas that don't need milk? I like peppermint but there's loads out there. Or a different milk - soya, coconut, hemp, oat - there's a few to choose from.

I find Cravendale the worst for this, I only have a splash in tea but even so it's just too milky

Now I use oat milk having normal milk in my tea tastes really odd. Much prefer oat milk and not just in tea. It also lasts for ages too.

I'm not keen on fresh milk in my tea because it sometimes smells fishy, so I have always used UHT

Also, do you put your milk in the cup before adding water or do you add water, brew and then add milk? If you do it by the first method then the boiling water interacts with the fat in the milk. If you use the second method then your milk is off Grin

I'm with you OP, I hate milk apart from in my tea or cooked in with food. But sometimes even the freshest milk can produce a milky smell that is off putting. The only way I can think of not smelling it is drinking it in one of the travel mugs

I'm exactly the same. YANBU. I've stopped having milk in tea because of it.

I'm the same as you OP but only if the milk comes from a plastic bottle. The smell makes me want to heave.

Luckily, we still have a milkman who delivers in glass bottles but once he retires (soon), I'm not sure how I'll cope Grin

Alpro soya is particularly delicious in tea snake! I like coconut for coffee.

Not everyone's cup of tea but have you tried dried milk powder? That smells like nothing on earth especially milk.

Could you be pregnant?

Or have you recently given up smoking, so that everything smells more intense?

I can't stand the smell of milk either. I've been avoiding it for 8 years now, since I discovered my eldest is highly allergic to it. I never liked milk much, but now I can smell it at 50 paces and it revolts me.

No not pregnant nor just give up smoking. Coffees ok, i don't get a smell with that.

Switch to soya/ oat/ rice milk and you will also be doing your small part to stop the unbearable suffering of these cows Angryhttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/mar/30/dairy-scary-public-farming-calves-pens-alternatives?CMP=sharebtnn_fb

Try your tea a few times without, it's surprising how quickly you adjust. In about a week you'll like it, if you like tea with milk anyway. It's just habit.

I've always hated milk, and honestly watching someone drink a glass of milk makes me feel queasy and I need to look away. I like cream, but milk it literally turns my stomach.

OP, are you buying UHT milk or traditionally pasteurized? The carton usually says if it's UHT. The high heat used in UHT sterilization makes it taste nasty. Or great if you're my DH.

What milk do you drink?
Full cream? Semi?
I drink skimmed in tea now. Just. a. drop.
No smell.
Try it.

Dairy cows have a horrible life. I didn't want to risk hijackibg the thread but their welfare is the reason I no longer drink milk.

I can honestly say I still drink as much tea as ever - it's been no trouble at all.

Do try this advice from a PP. I have drunk mine black for about 20 years. You can really taste the lovely leaves. The milk spoils the taste.

I'm going to give it a try Minstrel
