On holiday - in a half board hotel. Am I being unreasonable to stock up for lunch using the breakfast buffet?

Emmac50 Tue 04-Apr-17 18:22:23

I don't think so as long as you don't go mad

PinkHeart59156816 Tue 04-Apr-17 18:23:02

A lot of places don't like you doing it and will stop you if they see.

Personally I wouldn't want at lunch what I had for breakfast so we just get a baguette, ice cream etc until dinner

SimplyPut Tue 04-Apr-17 18:23:23

You are, but I think you probably know this deep down.

IHaveBrilloHair Tue 04-Apr-17 18:24:47

A couple of pieces of fruit and a roll or two, fine.
Making up an overflowing picnic basket, not fine.

What could you possibly take that you can eat later? Not hot food. Not cereal. Fruit? Bread? Not worth it, I'd rather have a proper lunch somewhere.

WorraLiberty Tue 04-Apr-17 18:26:31

Can you not afford food for lunch?

I really don't like the idea of hiding stuff on a bag to eat later, and having the same stuff as breakfast. It just feels a bit, well, tight?

I would think it's properly cheeky to take food from the buffet for lunch

Have a massive breaking, snack for lunch and fill up again at dinner!

Try some local food!

Where are you going?

Allthebestnamesareused Tue 04-Apr-17 18:28:30

when on holidays we used to eat a normal sized breakfast but saw people piling up and having seconds etc from the buffet. I therefore did not feel I was inappropriate taking a piece of banana bread or a danish to have as a snack later in the day along with some fruit.

welshweasel Tue 04-Apr-17 18:28:55

Really cheeky. Go to a local supermarket or pay for full board.

Dizzy199 Tue 04-Apr-17 18:29:31

YABU. If you wanted full board you should have paid for it. These people are running a business, can you imagine the costs if everyone at breakfast did this? But I think you knew this wasn't ok already, or you wouldn't have asked.

We did this on holiday in Florida when dcs were small.

A mini roll with cheese for lunch was better than food on offer inside the parks.

Violetcharlotte Tue 04-Apr-17 18:32:46

Loads of people do this, I think hotels expect it (obviously within reason!)

WorraLiberty Tue 04-Apr-17 18:32:57

A sweaty cheese roll, leftover from breakfast, in the Florida heat, was better than the lunches on offer inside the parks?

Whaaat? confused

StillDrivingMeBonkers Tue 04-Apr-17 18:33:26

It's thieving and you know it. You've paid for breakfast, not a packed lunch.

Fluffyears Tue 04-Apr-17 18:33:40

If you have only paid half board why do you feel entitled to take a lunch you haven't paid for? biscuit

Teabagtits Tue 04-Apr-17 18:39:26

At Disneyland Paris everyone was doing it. Yanbu

My mum used to take my DD’s on holiday when they were younger and she would make them up ham rolls from the breakfast buffet, along with some fruit, for their lunch. They absolutely hated it. Warm ham rolls- yuck. Don’t do it.

FloatyCat Tue 04-Apr-17 18:42:22

No don't do it, it's stealing. Imagine the embarrassment if you were caught.
Have a massive breakfast and a small snack instead of doing this.

mailfuckoff Tue 04-Apr-17 18:45:02

I tend to take an Apple when working away as normally at a conference there is no fresh fruit available and it's Danish or cake on offer. I wouldn't make up a sandwich or take good if I was on holiday

Knittedfrog Tue 04-Apr-17 18:50:35

You're in good company. My dh once had breakfast at the table next to VB and she shoved some fruit in her bag!

chanie44 Tue 04-Apr-17 18:52:19

I tried this, but it's not really worth it. The only food you can reasonably take is bread/rolls/cheese/ham. By the time you get to lunchtime it's not very nice. I do take fruit as a snack for the children.

We pop to the local supermarket wherever we are and buy lunch eg bread, salad stuff etc. I also chuck a couple of bits in my suitcase from home eg tubes of Pringles, fruit bars etc.

But you booked Half Board not Full Board???
