To worry about a friend that has taken a day off work to celebrate her dogs birthday, alone, with hats, personalised cake and those blowie things

It's just her and her dog, there have been 14 photos posted. She took her last breakup badly and has been forced to move somewhere that she doesn't like with work.

Is this normal for a woman in her mid 30s to do?

Not sure If I should call her or try to visit her soon

Put on your party dress and get over there.
Don't forget a present or she likely won't let you in!
Seriously tho it sounds like she needs support at this time. . .

Bit odd maybe.. Not a problem if she's happy but it might be an idea to give her a call if she's been a bit down.

I don't see a problem with it tbh.

We all have tough times in our lives and do what we can do survive them so if the dog is bringing her happiness and helping her cope with her break up then who am I to judge.

Btw my dog has a birthday cake each year, his my baby just like the dc are.

You say she's a friend when did you last call her for a chat? If your worried about her being lonely then pick up the phone

Honestly I'd go round for a coffee and take the dog a new toy.

It sounds as though she could be focusing on the good things/ spending time her way. Hopefully it's for positive reasons but it could be a sign that she's lonely. Perhaps get in touch.

It's a bit too far to pop in, 3 hours drive. I haven't spoken her in a few months, I will phone tonight though. Just hope I don't put my foot in it and not sure I can really give much help if she's having MH issues.

It isn't a one off, she got a puppy when she broke up and from her social media it looks like everything is about the puppy.

She sounds lonely. 3 months is a very long time not to have been in touch with a friend.

I know 3 months is long but time does fly by, but we do whatsapp very regular. I was the last one to call her in my defence.

YANBU. It's very strange behaviour and sounds like a cry for help.

A dog is an animal, not a baby, and shouldn't be treated as such.

*should be treated as such

I think it sounds amazing!!!

It can be really tough when life has given you a kicking to even start to plan things that you'll enjoy. She's clearly put the effort in, what with the personalized cake and "blowie things", so good for her! Maybe she put the photos online to raise a smile. Give her a ring tonight, but I wouldn't be worried. It sounds like her and her dog are having a great time. Who are we to say what is "normal" for a woman in her mid 30s? If you don't have a man or kids, why the hell not spoil the dog? Sounds much less fuss to me.

Sounds like my dog's birthday - well, I've not splurged on blowy things but she has cake, candles, cards, presents etc. What's odd about that if it makes people happy?

Get in touch with her then and offer support

I got my hamster a bday muffin and took photos of him eating it with a hat on that I made! ......I did it after work though.

....And yes, I'm being serious! lol!

I do think you should call her though and see if she wants any company or help celebrating! xx

I used to take my dog on picnics when the weather was good and I had no humans to go with. Don't see it's that much to worry about.

When my sister was going through a rough patch she posted loads of stuff about her cat, who was her only company at home most days. It's not abnormal to celebrate her dog's birthday - fellow pet owners will relate!

Don't ring her up to check out her MH, just ring up and say you want to wish her dog a happy birthday and ask her how she's doing.

I do think its a bit different doing something fun after work as apose to it being a whole day. She's got an instagram account for the dog and on the stats posts about 4 photos a day.

Then again im not a dog or even pet person

Omg Mrs Xx4 you have made my day!!! "...for his birthday he 'just' had a muffin"....you're a legend! Awww, you'be made me miss my hamsters of old now. I know people always claim that they're crying/spitting out their drinks when they see/read funny things on here but your hamster pics genuinely brought a tear of mirth to my eye! And a massive smile to my face...thank you!
