To think buzzfeed has ruined the internet

Buzzfeed just do clickbait boring articles with content they've ripped and rehashed from other people. Easy enough to ignore and unfollow anyone that shares their junk.

However in the bigger picture even former respectable publications have been inspired by these trash articles and i feel there has been a general dumbing down of articles. Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't think it's buzz feed - it's advertising revenue that's done it. God those clickbait things where you can't even read one story without clicking three times (they're all just stolen from Reddit anyway) are so annoying.

It makes me laugh that people on fb have taken to copying and pasting the stories into the comments section. That's what you get for being greedy. Nobody minds a bit of advertising but a million clicks to read about the worst thing a waitress has ever been asked to order - you won't BELIEVE number 17! - is stupid and annoying.

Don't think it's BuzzFeed as such, they actually have some pretty good articles and more serious stuff. Upworthy really pushed the click bait headlines.

It's these ridiculous ones that are really shit and all over FB, with a page that has 6 million adverts and a picture per page.

I annoy myself when I click on them Blush

The pursuit of profit ruins everything.

Well chances are if buzzfeed has a good article or video, it's basically something they stole from someone else and rehashed.

I wish you could just block some sites from appearing in your Google results, the clicking here sites are also bad but you don't know this till you land on the page.

Stay away from buzz feed and go on Reddit. Everything I see on Reddit appears on FB and buzz feed a couple of days after

My internet still works fine.

If people didn't always want their internet content for free, perhaps it would be better. When did you last pay to subscribe to a news organisation?

Can you recommend a feminist subreddit PlayOnWurtz ? I follow a lot of subreddits but they are more of the creepy/horror/morbid reality variety Blush

/r/gendercritical
/r/gender_critical

I would say /r/feminism but it's liberal to the point of being almost antiwomen ironically so I stick to the gender critical ones. Magdalen Berns is a regular contributor

I quite like reddit.

I don't think it's buzzfeed that's the problem, it's facebook. Buzzfeed (and others) are just geared towards being shared on facebook.

Well, IMO it's partly facebook and partly algorithms that are designed to know everything about you and your interests. The problem with that being that it doesn't take into account all the random shit we google that we're not really interested in at all eg. penguin bollards.

BUT clickbait annoys me less than articles where I have to click through 50 fucking pages to read it all because they like to put one sentence on each page.

But yeah. Targeted ads annoy me. Perhaps Google ruined the internet.

Remember Ask Jeeves?!

Just to warn you about gender critical it's VERY anti men. As a feminist who is rather partial to men I do find some of the opinions a bit Hmm at times

A subreddit that I think you'd like is r/savedyouaclick. I can't be dealing with that clickbait nonsense.

Didn't Boredpanda nick the mumsnet conversation about the girl who punched a male pupil for twanging her bra and said to the disciplinary teacher 'can I touch the front of your trousers then' ?

or was it the other way round
