To assume I have defective sleep genes

3 kids.
1st one - shit at naps. Screamed every time. Grumpy bugger cos he never slept.
2nd one - just total wank til she was 3 1/2, at every aspect of sleep. Used to stay awake all day at less than a week old.
3rd one - started with a false sense of security when she was nearly sleeping through at 12 weeks. Now 11 months and just fucking shit. Up for hours in the middle of the night.

#3 is currently refusing to go to bed. Is wild and hyper with tiredness but won't go. DH has just taken her out in the pushchair before I smother her.

I expected this shit when she was a newborn but now it's fucking ridiculous.

Do I just breed shit sleepers?! And how could I possibly have deserved 3 of the buggers??? Angry

I am of the opinion that people lie through their teeth about how their children sleep. My friends had a couple who were 'great sleepers' and mine wasn't. They came for dinner and DH said, "I'll put DD to bed" (she would go down fine). The bloke of the couple said, "oh, we'll say bye now then, you'll be a while". DH did Confused at him. Turns out their 'great sleepers' took hours to go down. They would sleep through but only after hours of fucking around.

Nearly 7yo here, knackered but still tossing and turning at 9.20pm. I only bred one of them but he's a shit sleeper too.

The older 2 are good now (though DD1 twats about endlessly during bedtime itself) so can be hopeful for the future but just not sure if I can wait that long!!

Just what the fuck is wrong with them?! Confused

dh and I were talking about this earlier today....I blame his Y chromosome.

I can sleep for a pastime... often on occasion, I can manage a lie in, an afternoon snooze, an early night and sleep fine through to the next day.
He sleeps badly at best, years of shiftworking haven't helped but it's quite rare he is still in bed and fast asleep when I wake up

DD is the same as me, was an angel as a baby, lovely naps and night long nights, and both boys are minimal sleepers now they are adults....they were terrible at napping as babes, but did sleep a good 10hour stretch at night.

it's all in that Ychromosome, I tell you!

The only one of mine to sleep for any length of time was DS1 and it was so unusual that it stressed me out so much that I used to wake him up to check he was still alive! I just threw them in bed with me very night...

I've got 2 DDs. The first one was a great sleeper. Slept through from quite a small baby. Naturally, being a total twat smug mother of a PFB I assumed this was down to my superior parenting skills. Then I had DD2. Let's just say that I am now firmly convinced that it is a matter of pure dumb luck as to whether you get a baby that sleeps or not. DD2 in now in Reception and is still only nodding acquaintances with sleep. She does mostly sleep though now but she still frequently fucks about for an hour or more before going to sleep.

She's now out in the car.

Obviously DH will be in an arse with me when he gets back cos he thinks I am massively unreasonable if I get angry about it. I am very angry about it.

Just bored of it now.
