AIBU?

To not care what colour my passport is?

Apparently one of the great things about Brexit is we'll be getting blue passports back (personally don't remember blue passports but whatever). AIBU to really not give a shit? Quote from the article:

Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell, chairman of the Flags and Heraldry Committee, told the paper: “It’s a matter of identity. Having the pink European passports has been a source of humiliation. It merged us into one European identity, which isn’t what we are

I don't care what colour it is but I will be fucked off if I have to pay for it to be changed. Which I am assuming I will.

They're not even pink though, they're burgundy Confused

I don't care about passport colour. My horror at leaving the EU runs a bit deeper than the cover of passport.

I don't think it's humiliating but from a practical perspective we will need a new passport design post Brexit. Regardless of politics I like the style and size of the EU version, the old blue UK passport was bigger and I think had a hard cover.

They are pink inside? I hate the idea of not being European.

It's some sort of weird Neo Imperialism.

I find it really odd. Our colonial past was hardly something to be proud of so anything that harks back to that, even indirectly like our passport colour, is baffling.

Besides, we should clearly have Union Jack 🇬🇧 red, white and blue passports. Because that won't upset anyone Wink

As long as the passport allows me to travel abroad, then I don't give a shit what colour it is.

Except yellow Grin

Oh good grief. £500m on designing a new passport?!

Even if they change the cover from burgundy to blue, it shouldn't cost that much! Shock

It's funny he calls it pink...does he object because blue is in keeping with his masculinity Hmm

Waitrose I think you will keep the EU version until it expires and the it will get replaced with the new UK one, the passport office couldn't cope if we all had to change our passports at the same time when we do actually leave the EU.

Bugger that I just got a new passport last year and it was the best part of £90!

Seems that way, I can't believe these people are in charge or our country. Sad

Other than the colour and one line on the front about Europe everything on our passports is UK designed.

No need for a big revamp - change colour (if you must) and remove text about Europe... job done.

Fluffy ears, we'll still be European (unless they're planning on moving the British isles elsewhere) Just not in the European union.

It's funny, you'd think they'd want pink, being the colour of empire.....

I don't think I can put it any better than Chris Addison (obviously that's generally true), who pictured these sort of hideous, throw back colonial dreaming Colonel Bufton Tufton Brexiteer modern life failures as the sort who spend their time "having an anger wank over the map of the former British empire"....

I thought the plan was to tow the British Isles out to sea

What a complete waste of fucking money.

How bloody hard would it be to change the cover then phase it in over the next 10 years as people renew. Does anyone actually give a shit about having pretty patterened pages?

Report
TheProblemOfSusan · 02/04/2017 10:34

I care about it. I'll be renewing mine in 2018 anyway so I can still have a European one for as long as possible (also it will run out otherwise!) and will be that awkward sod who insists on getting a EU-passport style cover to hide the Xenophobia-Blue one whenever I travel.

Well, it feels like Brexit is about retreating to the 1950s anyway, so this fits in nicely. And it's very important to get worked up about the colour of the cover of a document that we wave at foreigners as we go and stay with them.

Now, where did I put my pinny?

Will we all need new driving licenses as well?

New passports should be a different colour once we have left the EU, as it will make it easier to have a UK passport only queue at airports assuming that we have them.

Personally not keen on blue but understand if that was chosen on the basis it was the pre-Schengen agreement colour than I am not fussed.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 02/04/2017 10:41

No, it really doesn't matter and to a rational person it wouldn't. But then I'm not bothered about measurements being in multiples of ten instead of 12, 14 or 16. And yet, being able to officially buy a pound of onions is clearly of profound importance to some people.

chicaguapa · 02/04/2017 10:48

Glad to see more money being spent on this exit from the EU to... erm... save the costs of being in the EU. Hmm

I'll be paying for EU citizenship if that ever becomes a possibility and will happily accept any colour passport I get as a result.

Megatherium · 02/04/2017 10:51

I couldn't agree more. So many leavers voted because they thought public money would be saved, yet every day we get more evidence that it will be the reverse.

Despite the so called Brexit result - hate that B word - I feel firstly Scottish and secondly European. Nothing is going to change my feelings.

Report
SlothMama · 02/04/2017 10:55

I'm not bothered as long as I don't have to have it changed before it expires!
