AIBU?

Sorry not going to be the most interesting thread, I'm so bloody cross though I need a rant!
Got my Asda grocery shop delivered last week and there was a whole crate of items missing (12 things).
I emailed, explained that I now had to take my disabled child out in his wheelchair in the rain to local supermarket (single parent, non-driver), and deal with all the stares, trying to steer wheelchair with one hand while holding the basket, and the predictable meltdown. Got an apology. Ok, fair enough, very annoyed and inconvenienced but it happens.
Today I see on my fb feed a story about Asda tripping over themselves to find a discontinued coat for an autistic boy. Even getting it all the way from China. Lovely photo opportunity of course, and post got hundreds of 'well done' Asdas.
Call me cynical, but Asda don't give a shit do they? That family/boy was the acceptable face of disability, just a sad enough story to make them heroes but not disabled enough to put normal people off.
AIBU to be fuming??

not disabled enough to put normal people off.

This is where you lose the right to moan.

Why?

That's really annoying.
I think you are probably right. Generally this fb posturing is pretty cynical.
Hope you and your wee boy are tucked up home safe now.
FWIW I've found Tesco v reliable in terms of home delivery.

I can sort of see why you're angry OP, but 'not disabled enough to put normal people off' Confused

So they make a mistake and forget some bits then they apologise.

And you go way off into the deep end? I think you need to take a step back.

Can you not tell I'm being sarcastic

I really dont think there is a link between an autistic boy being given a coat and your delivery man forgetting some of your groceries Confused

By normal I assume you mean 'non disabled'? I do not have a disability but I would not be put off by a disabled person.

Report
Teabagtits · 31/03/2017 21:19

why
Because you clearly have a heirarchy of disability based on how normal a person looks which is so far from reality it's scary. Invisible disabilities face the same if not more discrimination because they don't look the part and life as an autistic is fucking hard enough without being pitted against wheelchair users who are obviously in your opinion appropriately disabled enough. If you see no problem with that then you're warped.

I agree with you.

It's ridiculous Asda delivery. There's always items missing and it cannot be relied on at all.

Oh well there you go.

I got the sarcasm in the OP right away.

OP YANBU. Also Asda customer service is legendarily bad (is that a word).

We don't use Asda as most of the shoppers look like they want to hurt you.

Report
pumpkinpilot · 31/03/2017 21:27

Asda seem to be much worse for substituted/missing items than Tescos.

I could be wrong but I believe they do not have the same policy of substituting AND price matching items so the packer has to find an item of the same value.

My order a few days ago had many substitutes but worse they couldn't find a replacement for lettuce or cherry tomatoes.

I think they just don't give their packers the same amount of time or training.

I will be shopping elsewhere.

I am not really sure they should have done more for you beyond not leaving so many items out of your order.

Sorry I couldn't tell you were being sarcastic but that's because I'm autistic! I really am, not a joke. Thanks for explaining.
It's autism awareness week so that may be they were making a fuss about autism.
I think you were treated badly, can you write and make a formal complaint? Sainsbury's are very good and reliable for online in my experience if you want an alternative.

It's not MY heirachy of disability, and I make no inference about how life is harder or not for one person to the next Teabag. I'm questioning Asda's inconsistent response and cherry picking who they use for publicity.
For what it's worth, except when he's in his wheelchair, my son's disability is invisible too

Asda are on their uppers - the reason you didn't have your stuff is because they didn't employ enough people to get it onto the shelves for the home shoppers in time, or the delivery was late so it wasn't out for store opening. I think WALMART have underestimated the efficiency needed to be a UK retailer

I saw that post on Facebook.

I felt uncomfortable that the mother disclosed his potential diagnosis.

One of my children has asd and I feel it is their private medical information no their tight to share if not.

I'm boycotting Asda after the customer service staff told me I wouldn't get a parking ticket because of the aaaages I had to wait to get change before I could buy parking, but I did, because it meant I was over 2 hours from entrance to exit even though my ticket hadn't expired.

Asda's response - (14 days later) nothing they can do, car park managed by third party, speak to custoner service staff for clarity on parking restrictions, hope we don't lose your business.

Luckily carpark management accepted 'but my ticket showed x time' and cancelled my ticket, but Asdas response was basically shit.

Not sure how you wanted them to uninconvenience you after the fact though? Would you be happier if they were equally shit to everyone and you had missing shopping and the other little boy also had no coat?

I know what you mean nomoreparades I come up against the socially acceptable face of disability too. I'm a wheelchair user, I'm also overweight and I get a lot of verbal abuse. Apparently wheelchair users should be small and frail, (poor, sad things) and not large women who are fond of their food but get little exercise due to their disability.

My DD ordered a shop online, and there was an issue in store that day so all the deliveries were cancelled. But they still took payment for it, meaning she had no more money to go and get urgent supplies and she's still battling them nearly a month later to get her money back. Asda blame the bank, the bank blames Asda. And she's still missing £120 that I've had to lend her. Disgusting.

Agree with you, Asda's home delivery is horrific. Only used them once I think - never again!.

The best are:

Ocado - by a mile (their own label stuff is shite though).
Sainsbury's - very, very good, and love most Sainsbury's stuff.

Used Asda for the first time last week, with Click and Collect. Arranged a time slot but had to change it to later in the day due to car trouble. Talking to their customer services team to change the slot, who were clearly an offshore centre, was like pulling teeth. And hey ho, the next day I found they had taken the money out of my account twice because they didn't cancel the first slot. Had to wait 4 days for a refund. Won't be using them again.

I get you OP. How infuriating.
Did they not offer more than an apology? They could have offered redelivery or financial recompense.

Bleugh to all the 'clever' 'you lost my sympathy' answers. Some people cannot understand how relentlessly tough parenting a disabled child can be. And how relentless being a lone parent can be.

Cake and Brew for you
