Erm... so I absolutely wasn't warming the Nutella up by popping it upside down on the toaster...

I now how a giant lump of nutulla inside the toaster. It's a dualit. I've fucked it, haven't I?

have since eaten the toast and nutulla, no actual evidence it was me--wink--

Seriously though ... help?

Chocowaffle Fri 31-Mar-17 13:15:03

grin if it can't be easily scraped out, I guess a new one is probably needed!

DrFoxtrot Fri 31-Mar-17 13:15:15

Wait until it's harder and a bit crusty and chisel it off?? I don't know confused

HairsprayBabe Fri 31-Mar-17 13:16:34

Is it an expensive toaster?
If not I would probably just bin and replace if the blob is unreachable/huge

Can you unplug toaster and scrape it out with a knife?

Small blob I would ignore tbh grin but then I am a slattern

SantinoRice Fri 31-Mar-17 13:17:08

You put it UPSIDE DOWN?

shock grin

Hillarious Fri 31-Mar-17 13:17:54

My SIL adores Nutella. I'm sure she'd get it out, no problem!

xStefx Fri 31-Mar-17 13:19:13

Lol sorry I can't help with that, just wanted to tell you reading this has made me giggle x

Hastalapasta Fri 31-Mar-17 13:20:13

You did what? Possibly crime of the century grin

I would unplug the toaster, use a plastic/rubber spatula and try to salvage clean the Nutella out. Probably a lost cause as the toaster would need washing.

Good luck

Thinkingblonde Fri 31-Mar-17 13:21:18

A plastic or rubber scraper/spatula?
Unplug it first though, unlike me who fused the whole house trying to get a tea cake out of ours with a knife 😱

KarmaKit Fri 31-Mar-17 13:21:44

I fully expected a story of a small child being "helpful" and getting a bit mixed up, but you really surprised me there OP! grin

I doubt you could clean inside it tbh. New toaster for you!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut Fri 31-Mar-17 13:22:10

What happens when you slide out the crumb tray? Otherwise I'd go for a decorator's sponge on a stick.

Just unplug it first.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut Fri 31-Mar-17 13:23:28

And for next time whether it's Nutella, honey or another spead that's gone solid try 10 secs in the microwave. Just make sure you get all the foil off the top first.

puddingpen Fri 31-Mar-17 13:24:27

How big is the blob of nutella? Scrape out what you can with somehting non metallic and then open all the windows and keep popping it down until it burns away to nothing...? Well that's what I would do but it doesn't sound very safe now I've written it down... blush

VenusOfWillendorf Fri 31-Mar-17 13:28:31

You could try cleaning it out with a toothbrush and water? Warm water if it has dried in, and small cloth to soak up the chocolaty water.
But unplug it first and don't plug it back in 'till you're certain it has fully dried out again!

HLBug Fri 31-Mar-17 13:28:50

Ahh thanks OP, you've made my day. This is EXACTLY something I would do and DH would go absolutely batshit. I have no useful advice to give...but wish you all the best! Please keep us updated on your progress (and use the microwave next time wink)

blue2014 Fri 31-Mar-17 13:40:58

Ah some genius ideas - I knew MN would help

(Yes the stupid toaster cost about £150 cos DH really wanted it -he never eats toast and if works just as well as old £10 one did!)

I will update later

(This isn't enough to teach me not to do it again!)

SecretNetter Fri 31-Mar-17 13:45:19

puddingpen that's just what I thought...pop it down and burn it off, then give it a good shake upside down and hope the crunchy/burnt chocolate falls out. Not sure if that's a good idea or actually dangerous but is probably what I would try!

Freshprincess Fri 31-Mar-17 13:50:10

I'd just keep switching it on till it either burnt off or set the house on fire.
For future reference, stand the jar the right way up on top of the toaster whilst the bread is toasting. Or warm it on top of the radiator whilst bread is toasting.

HairsprayBabe Fri 31-Mar-17 13:51:49

OP you can microwave nutella for 10 seconds at a time to achieve the same meltyness with no toaster accidents!

msrisotto Fri 31-Mar-17 13:52:14

Tip the toaster upside down, turn it on and wait for it to come out the way it went in. Well it's how you got yourself into this mess grin

GabsAlot Fri 31-Mar-17 13:54:26

but why did u put it upside down the heat wold have melted it upright aswell

blue2014 Fri 31-Mar-17 14:38:18

because I'm an impatient tit it's faster my way round (in my defence it's the first time it's happened in 3 years)

StarryIllusion Fri 31-Mar-17 14:49:39

Bottle brush?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia Fri 31-Mar-17 14:54:05

extra thick bit of bread and see if it toasts on?..you might have invented a new self-garnishing appliance

Simply place the topping of your choice upside down on your toaster, and three minutes later install your bread...moments will pass and your toast will soon be lavishly adorned with your heart's desire...

blue2014 Fri 31-Mar-17 17:21:29

Update: almost all of it fell straight through to the crumb tray (maybe it was worth the extra £140 hmmconfused) and I seem to have successfully burnt the rest off grin
