AIBU?

To think the end is nigh for Facebook?

Am I the only one to get irritated by the self congratulating posts of offspring doing amazing things, photos of saying goodbye to old car and hello my new Range Rover, or 'feeling content' headed photos of posters on holiday, or look at me looking beautiful and pouting photos by 40yr old mums? Perhaps I am miserable, but feeling a bit over it and feel, pressured to like such posts in case seen to not liking...oh the dilemma!!

YABU if you haven't worked out yet that people tend to put the good stuff on social media but that doesn't mean their life is without problems. Why do you have these people as FB friends if you don't like them very much and aren't interested in what they're doing?

BeyondUser24601 · 30/03/2017 11:11

That doesn't sound any different to the last ten years of Facebook Grin

RabidLimboMum · 30/03/2017 11:11

Yes, I felt that exactly the same and also found myself scrolling through on autopilot. I've not used it for a month and don't miss it at all.

RabidLimboMum · 30/03/2017 11:12

*felt exactly..... No need for the that

DoJo · 30/03/2017 11:13

They are the friends you have chosen- it says more about your social circle than Facebook in general.

I think threads on MN moaning about FB have had there day.

LetsSplashMummy · 30/03/2017 11:16

I wish my FB was still like that, all I get now is people sharing articles about Trump and Brexit, endlessly. I would love to know what is happening in my friends lives and everyone I know has the same opinions on Trump and Brexit, so it isn't even a discussion topic.

Spudlet · 30/03/2017 11:17

I find the 'so and so like such and such's picture' posts that Facebook pulls up automatically, when I have no idea who such and such is. Sometimes there's no content from anyone I actually know on my timeline, in among all the advertising spam and ramdomer duck face pictures! Hmm

Spudlet · 30/03/2017 11:17

Find them far more irritating, that should say.

PlayOnWurtz · 30/03/2017 11:18

The end is nigh for it because kids don't use it anymore. Mine have no interest in it nor do their peers. It's all about WhatsApp and Instagram these days.

DrudgeJedd · 30/03/2017 11:20

Pah I clicked on this thinking there had been some big security/financial balls-up that was going to send the awful thing down the shitter.
I'm disappointed Sad

brasty · 30/03/2017 11:20

My face book feed is full of political posts and events. Depends who your friends are

onalongsabbatical · 30/03/2017 11:29

Mine's wall-to-wall politics and art and music. Algorithms = karma.

HemiDemiSemiquaver · 30/03/2017 11:30

you can alter what appears on your timeline, Spudlet. If you choose 'recent posts', you are much more likely to get things your friends post, rather than just the things they like (I don't know why it works that way, but it does). Also, if people stopped liking/posting on pages with public access, then their friends wouldn't see all the random stuff.

You can also ask to see more or less of certain people, and block it from showing you things from the pages you specify (so you can get rid of all the game news, etc).

But mostly you just need friends who use it sensibly and in a way that works with what you enjoy. They're the problem, not the media they use.

Just remind me, who owns WhatsApp and Instagram?

BipBippadotta · 30/03/2017 11:35

My experience is that FB is particularly unbearable if you feel guilty about deleting / not accepting friend requests from despised in-laws / primary school classmates you have nothing in common with / weirdo colleagues / etc. I always felt too mean and scared to do that, and as a result the overbearing people I couldn't stand in real life were also dominating my internet. Got off FB entirely 2 years ago and it felt like sanity was restored to the universe.

Rabbit01 · 30/03/2017 11:35

Ah, ok, good points, probably just me having a downer day rather than Facebook or my friends, apologies

Play just because kids don't use it doesn't mean the end is nigh...it's adults who have all the money!

FB is seriously not going anywhere. It's hugely popular.

Rabbit01 · 30/03/2017 11:36

Bip, I might need to do that if I don't resee the light on it soon ☹

Yes Facebook own them however if the younger generation aren't using the main app the main app will go the way of MySpace and bebo...

BonnyScotland · 30/03/2017 11:39

Younger people mainly use it for memes and invites to events. Most don't post things about their own lives as much anymore (that's for insta and snapchat). The way it's used is definitely evolving.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/03/2017 11:41

Bebo! They were the days.

*sniffs

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/03/2017 11:41

Those were the days. Obviously
