UKMAIL and their safe places! What a joke

So they state that a parcel that I sent to a family member was left in a safe place. The front yard! It was not there so must have been stolen.

UK Mail say that as i didn't upgrade to a "signed for" service I was confirming that the parcel could be left in a safe place. They do not state this clearly when offered a signed for upgrade and since it was a family member there was in my opinion no need to make them sign for it. What is worse is family member left a note on the door to say leave the parcel with next door who had agreed to accept it. The courier ignored this when they posted the "while you were out card"

This was not a small parcel that could be hidden in a bush. It was a huge 65cm x 65cm x 50cm box. In my opinion the front yard was not a safe place at any cost, It would have been impossible to hide.

AIBU to think that this is ridiculous and I should be able to claim. They will not accept liability.

this is what their t&c's say

7.1.2 if you have not selected a signature mandatory service and it is not (in
our complete discretion) practicable to leave the Consignment at the
Delivery Address, we may deliver the Consignment to a nearby
address (“Alternative Address”).

Can someone help me with this? The terms and conditions do not actually confirm that liability is on the sender does it?

I'd ask them to explain what qualifies as a safe place.
To me a safe place to leave a package is somewhere it wouldn't be at risk of damage by the weather or by theft. A neighbours or in a porch/shed.

Leaving it in in the garden makes it at risk to both of those and to me is a very poor choice. If you get no joy ask to speak to someone higher up. Do they have a social media page you could contact them through?

We had a parcel delivered by Royal Mail. They left a card to say it had been left in our special place. We don't have a special place. Someone had written on the card pushed through the door with a biro that had run out, so was indecipherable.

Later that day, I went to the bins down the side of the house. The package had been thrown over the side gate. To do that, he had to walk along the path to the side of the house, which can't been seen from the pavement.
