AIBU to feel a little bit disgusted when I see photos of my friends kids on Facebook where they're absolutely covered in food, and the parents clearly think it's funny/adorable?

So many photos of young children with tomato sauces all over their faces and in their hair, or those cake-smash photo shoots where the babies are covered in chocolate cake. Am I the only person who doesn't think it's cute?!

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon Wed 29-Mar-17 07:59:22

Cake smash is just a waste of good cake.

Strangely enough I don't mind the cake ones except for the waste of cake. Tomato sauce though ... grim

I'm not so keen on the staged ones but really don't mind the photos where it's obviously natural. It doesn't really bother me what other people spend their money on though.

I once met the original spagetti head.... as in the poster from the early 90's

YANBU. Especially if it's tomato sauce or baked bean sauce or whatever. It's not cute by any stretch of the imagination.

Def not the only one OP, I think it's disgusting!

Depends on their age - a 6 and above year old not so cute. Baby weaning or a toddler with an ice cream smile - cute. Though a natural photo is best
Although I hate those cake smash shoots so staged and such a waste of cake

Are you my DP?? This drives him insane, he hates it.

Can't say it's ever really bothered me!

Onlyaplasticbagdear Wed 29-Mar-17 08:32:51

Yes this grosses me out too and my DS is one so he's frequently covered in filth. Weirdly I'm not a clean freak at all (by MN standards I'm a disgusting slattern in fact) but for some reason kids covered in food makes me envy (not envy - sick!!)

BertrandRussell Wed 29-Mar-17 08:33:01

Paint any better?

PenelopeFlintstone Wed 29-Mar-17 08:33:43

I agree! I saw one yesterday which was chocolate yogurt or something. Revolting!

LBOCS2 Wed 29-Mar-17 08:37:50

This one quite entertains me...

Doyouwantabrew Wed 29-Mar-17 08:40:11

Agree op it's boak. Paint is ok though

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Wed 29-Mar-17 08:42:25

God no - it's gross! Actually makes me feel a little sick. I'm not sure why it's supposed to be cute!

MrsJayy Wed 29-Mar-17 08:44:02

Meh to most. It's just food. If you don't like cleaning food/ mud/ paint/ bodily fluids don't have children or pets.
Cake smash = conspicuous waste "look at me I can afford for my child to waste luxury food". Dicks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Wed 29-Mar-17 08:53:11

I don't have children! I think it's the awful photos that people object to

Asmoto Wed 29-Mar-17 08:57:35

It's interesting - strangely, I'm squeamish over children covered in food but not over any amount of pet mess - it's not logical at all! Luckily, I have pets but no children.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Wed 29-Mar-17 09:01:27

Asmoto Me too - cat poo, pee or puke is fine (and not just my own cats). Humans though... A friend brought her newish baby to a gathering,
She was sitting next to me with the baby on her shoulder and he vomited some milk - I ended up having to leave

MrsJayy Wed 29-Mar-17 09:04:13

I have children adult ones though when they ate you just hosed them down i wouldnt knock on my neighbours door and say lol look she is covered in yoghurt and snot lol so don't want to see it on facebook. I also work with toodlers and i just run at them with a babywipe grin

morningconstitutional2017 Wed 29-Mar-17 09:04:49

Well no, though I suppose it can be funny if it is someone else's kid and it's not staged. Not your child - not your job to clean them up afterwards.
If this stuff is still knocking about when the child is a teenager then they'll be embarrassed by it (and an insensitive adult may trot it out to see what effect it has) if it isn't deleted.
I don't know how Facebook works and I prefer to ignore it.

YANBU. Makes me gag. I always had a damp face cloth handy at mealtimes and luckily for me mine hated having food on his face.

paxillin Wed 29-Mar-17 09:15:39

I came here hoping for a thread full of mnetter's kids covered in food.

Levatrice Wed 29-Mar-17 09:19:20
