AIBU?

Is pasta and rocky road squares a bit of a rubbish meal to feedback to a friend for lunch

I'm unemployed at the moment so don't have much money.

My friend pops round every Saturday and she has some lunch at mine. All I do is something cheap and simple.

Today I'm making homemade enchiladas and a rocky road tray bake for dessert.

Is this okay do you think?

I don't do anything exciting as it's an informal visit where we just relax and chat over a coffee. I don't invite her for lunch specifically, it's just a case of her calling round to say hi.

She's never complained but I just feel a bit embarrassed as before I lost my job last year I would have done something a bit better.

Is this a stealth boast? I'd be over the moon with that lunch!

Sounds lovely Smile enchiladas aren't pasta though!

It's a fine meal, don't worry. She is not in a 5 star restaurant, you are not Gorgon Ramsey and she can't make demands on you.

I know! I realised once I'd posted. I always think of them as a version of lasagne! 😂

Sounds fine, don't understand why it wouldn't be.

Do you ever go to hers? Unless she is a complete idiot, she will understand that being unemployed will probably mean that you are short of money.

Sorry, I'm lost. I'm not unemployed but to me a cheap, simple lunch would be sandwiches, or maybe soup with bread and cheese.

You're making a hot main course and home baking for a casual Saturday lunch and you wonder if it's enough?

Can I ask you an honest question, if you were in well paid work just now what kind of lunch would you like to be offering?

?????? Why does she not give you lunch at hers?

If you're unemployed and not swimming in cash, how come she isn't taking it in turns to provide the lunch? Actually, regardless of your financial situation, why is she not bringing food sometimes?

Lunch sounds lovely, btw.

Sounds amazing (even if you weren't strapped for cash)! If she comes every week she would hardly be expecting a huge formal meal!

Also agree with PP if I were her I'd be offering to bring lunch (at least every other week) even if you weren't unemployed.

She has never contributed anything. When I got to hers I either save so I pay half of the takeaway or bring a sandwich along.

I know it's 'unfair' in a sense but I value her as a friend and it's not something worth arguing over.

When I was employed she was getting amazing stuff! No wonder she comes!

Sounds lovely to me too, and she's taking the piss if she never provides lunch! Even if she can't cook, couldn't you agree that she always brings pudding?

I agree a sandwich or soup more than acceptable it's what I would eat for lunch. It's a drop in not a dinner invite. Next time I went to hers I would ask her to feed me (even if she didn't have much money) then you can return the same simple lunch with no pressure, because presably you don't have much spare cash either. Or offer drink say I had a late lunch!

Your op makes even less sense now. You have a friend who works but only provides takeaway and makes you, an unemployed person, pay for half.

But you're home cooking two courses and worry that it isn't exciting?

I'm not really having this, sorry.
