AIBU?

To want to complain about the man from my letting agency?

Had my mid-tenancy inspection today. 2 things cropped up that needed attention. Nothing serious, just a couple of minor things that I'll deal with myself (such as something needing new screws), I just haven't had time this last couple of weeks to get to B&Q.

So, the guy who is doing the inspection tells me 3 times in the space of 20 mins to 'get your lad to do....x,y,z'. I ignored it the first 2 times. The 3rd time I politely told him I don't have 'a lad', the only people who live here are me and my 3DC (all under 4). His reply 'oh, well you won't manage it so just report it via our online maintenance form.'

How incompetent does he think I am, that I can't fix a minor household problem without the help of a man!? I manage to bring up 3 children, 2 with a severe disabilities, and run a house on my own. I am an engineer by trade, I can use a fucking screwdriver!!!

I want to complain but I don't want it to affect my chances of having my tenancy renewed at the end of the term. AIBU to be miffed at his attitude?

Why did you not tell him the first time that it was fine and that you would do it yourself? That would have sorted the problem.

Does the LL not do stuff like that?

Will he have to inspect the work once done?
Do it and bake him a cake!

Kill him with kindness!

Either these things are your responsibility or theirs. The sex/gender of the tenants is irrelevant. I'd request clarification of what is your/their responsibility and make the point that he made it sound like it was different for men and women.

I thought your lad meant your son? But he seems to mean your partner - presumptuous of him and yes quite sexist, but as they are offering why not let them fix it? Isn't it part of what you pay rent for, to have the landlord or agency take care of repairs for you?

I am not at all a fan of letting agents - my own are crap - but I would save making a complaint until they do something really bad.

By the way, unless the fault was caused by you in some way not considered to be reasonable usage it's actually your landlords responsibility to sort it out. Gender capability should come into it at all, it sounds to me as if they are trying to get out of doing their job!
Either way he should have checked what came out of his mouth.

What a cock. He deserves to be knocked back to the 1950s pulled up on his comments however I suspect that you would be wasting your time and energy reporting it.

Perhaps fix it yourself whilst taking a selfie log that you email over to him - after all you need the lettings company to know you have rectified the issue.

I'm assuming this isn't a special screw with a penis specific attatchment that us spechial likle wimmins dont know about in which case I take it all back

YANBU to be pissed off with him, every single tool in this house is mine, dh is utter pish at diy and id certainly tell any 'inspector' that and expect him to listen the first time I told him.

Wouldnt bother complaining though, it would just come across as pathetic I think.
