To not want to spend £67 on a Beauty & the Beast glass ornament?

Dd3 is obsessed with the new Beauty and the Beast film. She spends all of her time listening to the soundtrack. Now she has seen this glass ornament thing - it is £67. Although it's her birthday in 2 weeks, I had already bought her presents. Is it me or does this film merchandise get more and more expensive with every film? Now most of it is outstripping the cost of the Frozen dresses. You can get a set of dolls for £500, no less!!

You can make a similar thing yourself for less than £20.

Buy a fake rose and you can get cheap glass domes and even little lights to put in it from amazon.

Sadly creative arts are not my strong suit grin

You just tell her that you have already bought her presents. Maybe she can save her birthday money if she gets any to go towards it.

Tesco is selling a jewellery box version of this. It is really pretty but not glass and much cheaper

I might get it and save it for Christmas. I'm just wondering whether it's actually worth the money.

Don't let her see the Swarovski one it's £109 here

TestingTestingWonTooFree Thu 23-Mar-17 10:54:20

Madness. Let her spend her own money on it if it's that good.

ClemDanfango Thu 23-Mar-17 10:56:31

Looks a bit shit for 67 quid!

BrutusMcDogface Thu 23-Mar-17 10:56:52

That's actually horrible! How old is dd?

lottieandmia Thu 23-Mar-17 10:57:23

She's 7 Brutus.

BrutusMcDogface Thu 23-Mar-17 10:59:25

I'm just thinking, if that was in my 7 year olds pit room, it wouldn't last five minutes...I'm sure you could spend £67 on something better/more appropriate?

Though I agree you should tell her you already have her presents and maybe she could save up for it herself.

BrutusMcDogface Thu 23-Mar-17 11:02:29

I found the Tesco one- its better for a 7 year old imo! She can touch it and use it instead of just looking at it! grin

Get her the right thing. It's good for her self-esteem. Children remember when parents fob them off with a cheap imitations, and they value themselves less because of it.

If you can't afford it now, say so. Also, if you could afford it but don't want to pay. Tell her if she still wants it at Christmas it can be her main present, if it is still in the shops.

Ah, I see you are thinking of putting it away for Christmas. Just shows how sensible you are.

lottieandmia Thu 23-Mar-17 11:04:07

I think she would put it up in her room. She's possibly on the spectrum, hence she has obsessions that really consume her grin

FurryDogMother Thu 23-Mar-17 11:05:15

The £67 is ugly - here's a cheaper and prettier version on Etsy.

lottieandmia Thu 23-Mar-17 11:05:47

Yeah, I wouldn't get a cheap imitation - no point really. I think she will still want it at Christmas so maybe that's the thing to do. It takes 20 days for delivery anyway so too late for her birthday.

squoosh Thu 23-Mar-17 11:06:07

It’s a slippery slope OP. It starts with an ugly and massively overpriced Disney monstrosity but soon you’ll be surround by Royal Doulton ladies in ballgowns.

lottieandmia Thu 23-Mar-17 11:06:46

X posts furry - I think she wants that one partly because there's an option to have your name engraved on it.

lottieandmia Thu 23-Mar-17 11:08:05

Squoosh grin I remember liking those Royal Doulton ladies blush

Stop being so tight and get her this -

grin

That's beautiful splendide and a veritable steal at £9,000! My soul is enriched just from gazing upon its beautiful form through my p.c monitor.

splendide Thu 23-Mar-17 11:18:06

I'm regretting posting it now as there are only 250 available - don't want you lot snapping them all up before pay day!
