AIBU?

To think that something might be wrong (men read if you dare)

Ok so not really an AIBU but posting for traffic. Women, can you help me?

I used to have long(ish) cycles at about 30-40 days, I've never been too regular really, but I'm only 20 so I'm definitely not menopausal. The cycles started to gradually get shorter, from 30, to 20, back to 28, 23, and now 18. My last periods was the 4th of March and this PM have started another one.

AIBU to think something is awry? It's slightly irritating you know?

What has your GP said?

Go see your GP. You have the onset of early menopause.

Go to the doctor.

Which I'm sure my male DP would, also tell you [confised]

I'd have blood tests just to know what's going on. 4th march less than three weeks ago. So that is beyond just a short cycle

CookieLady, although that is what is happening to me at 47, my cycle is becoming shorter and is now about 24 days, you can't say to the OP "that is early onset menopause"!! You can't diagnose that!

Go and see your gp, and stop peddling the myth that men will suffer irreparable damage if anyone says "period" near them.

Are you using any hormonal contraception?

CookieLady must have one of those magical medical degrees that enable you to diagnose via the internet with hardly any patient history...

Go to your GP.

Calm down Mutella! I missed out the word may and prefaced it by saying "Go see your GP".

Jesus. I said "Go see your GP".

My periods have always been like that. I'm a little concerned but never had it flagged up when GP or nurses have asked and I've answered. Is it really that uncommon?
I can be on my period anywhere from 1 day to a few weeks, anything from light spotting where I don't even need anything to heavy bleeding, and stop and bleed again anywhere between a day or 2 (commonly 5 day gap) to 3 months. No better really since hormonal contraception.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you are a big girl then that can affect your cycle.

I dared. I'm underwhelmed and disappointed. Out of interest, are you a road cyclist or MTBer?

You could speak to a doctor. I had something similar at your age and it worked out I was aneamic. When that was sorted by periods regulated. Also the pill can help regulate.

I'm forty seven, still not went through menopause, so I wouldn't assume it's that, there could be many many reasons.

Ha, ha, ha. Medical degrees that enable folks to diagnose early menopause over the internet. I wish those were a thing. Wonder how long it would take you to train for that.

No I'm not on hormones or anything and I know I know I should be at the doctor and will probably go but I literally just posted this for advice to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Are you overweight as this can greatly affect periods.

When I was overweight my periods nearly stopped which is why kicked my weight loss into gear and now they are back and normal

womanwhowantstohelp · 22/03/2017 17:34

LoriD no. I'm not. Thanks though.

Mine are doing this! I'm 42 though so suspect it's either the perimenopause or the mini pill messing me around.

Don't get the bit about men...

Def. see the doc. Are you newly on the mini pill by any chance OP?

Why have you not gone to see your doctor?

And don't discount early menopause so glibly. A friend was only 15 when she went through hers.

you know when you ask for help - people try to help - and you are rude to them - do you find that goes down well generally ?

Cookie , not quite. What you actually said was,

Go see your GP. You have the onset of early menopause.

Do you think that's a wise thing to say to a complete stranger online, based on very limited information? Irregular periods can have many, many causes. You have no way of knowing that it's the "onset of early menopause".

Please, refrain from saying things that could cause someone a great deal of anxiety and concern when there is absolutely no reason to worry. Seeing a GP is the right course of action but you can't diagnose someone online.
