AIBU?

To ask if you fantasise about ESCAPE?

How often do you imagine just running away? You know, abandoning your family, kids, all anxieties, guilt, responsibilities... And if you do, where do you imagine going? My top 3 fantasies are:

  1. becoming a Buddhist nun (Tibetan mountains maybe).
  2. becoming a hermit on Orkney.
  3. running off to Barbados with Hugh Jackman.

    AIBU?

Are you being unreasonable about what?

Hugh Jackman is never going to run off to the Orkneys with a Buddhist nun.
You're deluding yourself.

Have you checked that with him, Piglet?
Fiver says that's his fantasy too...

I think it's quite possible to like your life, and still fantasise about alternatives, like escaping to a life of solitude. Often we don't actually really want our fantasies to become reality.... reality would ruin them!

I don't want to escape my relationship but god, I dream of handing in my notice at work and spending all day with my dodgies and my garden.
I'm so boring I don't want to do anything exotic. Except buy an absolutely huge fuck off american import Dodge 4x4 thing. So I can go to the garden centre and buy strawberry plants.

1 and 2 are very appealing (I did once apply for a summer residency as a hermit at a National Trust property) but Hugh Jackman is deeply unappealing and wouldn't be allowed to come.

Yes! all the time with many different variations (none including Hugh Jackman but I bet he'd make a good Buddhist nun though).

It's not something I typically think about. But last week when I had bronchitis and I was spending my second consecutive sleepless night cleaning up after a vomiting child, I'd have considered it.

I do this too! My number one fantasy is running away to sub-saharan Africa and working for a charity.

Somewhere very remote Grin

No I don't.

I'm starting to think I lack any imagination.

Someone I know quite well is preparing to leave for Orkney, and a completely new life, as I type OP.

I envy them and plan to do something very similar as soon as I can.

Yes. I also have a remote Scottish island fantasy. A gorgeous cottage, full of books, that has an amazing food delivery service, and a dog that turns up once a day for lovely walks but then goes home to someone else for all the responsibilty bits.

I'd just like to be in peace and not needed for a while. Sigh....

No I love my life.

I have done more than my share of travel/lived in an exotic location in the past, and my days are my own while everyone is at work/school.

I have plenty time to myself so I can fit in yoga, gym classes etc. I'm exactly where I want to be right now.

Never running away from my children! My children are always present.
I have a recurring one about being on a luxury yauht with Michael Fassbender. In my fantasy though my two children are always with me, having the time of their life jumping in and playing in the sea.

I love my life and I don't fantasise escaping but I do dream of a week alone! Send kids and dh off somewhere else and staying at home alone for a week sounds heavenly...

Yes, often! My fantasy is very similar to yours, FurryTurnip. Scottish highlands, cottage with masses of books, open fireplace and incredible views and.... silence! Just want to be left alone by everything and everyone. I'm actually planning it, as soon as my children have grown up and moved out so only another 10 years or so... Hugh Jackman could have the outhouse, I suppose.

Yep!
Mine is moving to a tiny stone cottage on the Northumberland coast and living completely alone!
I imagine myself wearing cable knit jumpers and having a beautiful cottage garden and taking walks along the wind swept beach sigh

Yes - sometimes !! But nowhere exotic. I often escape from the house and go to a local pub (for a coffee) on my own if I can

I fantasise about a short prison sentence Grin
One where I'm in my own little cell and get to read and exercise and poo alone

Currently in hospital and although sore, have had a wonderful night away, bed to myself, tea in a pot Brew bliss!
