AIBU?

Knicker bows

Not exactly a pressing question, but why must all grown women's basic underwear be covered in these childish little bows?

I've got no issues with a nice set of lacies, but WTF are these doing on my sensible Bridget's? AIBU? They infuriate me, and they're on bras too! Why on earth is the purpose of a bow between my boobs... on a t-shirt bra?

YABU they make the garment!

ZogsAnon · 17/03/2017 19:13

Well they are useful to tell the front easily...

It's so we can tell the difference between a man bra and man knickers. They don't like bows on their underwear from what I can gather Confused

I know what you mean, they are annoying and infantile.

Totally pointless. I don't buy knickers with bows on.

Zogs got it, so you can tell the front

Juliancopescat · 17/03/2017 19:14

It's just to tell you which is the front and outside. Same reason they have them on bras (for inside outside anyway)

Yanbu. I bought some M&S minis to sit under my 7 months pregnant bump and the little bow irritates my skin!

Report
witwootoodleoo · 17/03/2017 19:15

They drive me mad not least because they often show as a bump through nice dresses. Utterly pointless

Mine are from m and S and don't have bows on

sonjadog · 17/03/2017 19:16

It´s kind of obvious which is the front and right way round on a bra though, isn´t it? Or at least it is when the bra is my size...

Zogs lightbulb moment! But I still hate them Angry

I like the bows I think they are pretty. GenuInely. I'm not infantile or girly but I am quite feminine and I like me a nice knicker bow. 😂

I usually cut them off normal underwear, but leave them on pretty stuff. YANBU!

I think I've read somewhere that it's to do with Queen Victoria.

I genuinely never noticed so the bow thing until DD started potty training and used the them to work out front and back, and triumphally pointed out that this applied to both 'big girl' and 'mummy' pants

Well a little google gives many reasons, the most logical being the tradition started before elastic existed and women tied their knickers with string through the waist band in a bow at the front. Same as corsets etc.

I think these days it's simply decorative. However I've many pairs of knickers without them, in fact I'd say most of them. Depends on the style.

I've stopped seeing them, they're so prevalent.

Men must be much smarter than women - they seem to be able to work out which way round their undies go without bows.

I'm feeling quite left out, I've just checked my bra... It doesn't have a bow

I'm sure there was a thread on here about this before once. YANBU it's annoying. Sometimes I just want some nice and plain thanks. I'm not 8.

Idk.

I quite like lacy underwear. Or just normal cotton underwear but with lace on the side/at the top.

But black "granny knickers" are also wonderful imo :)

The bows are actually quite cute imo. Although I don't think my knickers have any? Confused

I often get dressed in the dark, bows mean my knickers are the right way round

I assumed they were there to look pretty, until I started teaching my little girl to put her own pants on. Something clicked then, and I felt a bit thick!

My dh's cousin actually has a business making and selling on these sorts of trimings (not in the uk). He's a fantastic salesperson I guess. Grin
