AIBU?

Am I drinking too much?

Have found myself 2/3 of a bottle of wine down pre bedtime routine with the little ones...does anyone else do this? Thinking of cutting down, but not sure if i may be an all or nothing kind of person - and may be using alcohol as a crutch. Don't think of myself as an alcohol but also aware that it could be a slippery slope.

I don't drink alcohol everyday as o don't think it's healthy. Me and dh have 2-3 glasses of wine on a Friday and sometimes Saturday once dd is in bed.

Do you actually enjoy the wine or has it just become a habit? Why not try just having wine 2-3 days out of 7?

Every night? I'd say so. Try to give yourself a day off at least every two nights or so. That's quite a lot of units a week if every night.

I think if you're worried about it, that tells you what you need to know.

It's not really a quantity issue for lots of people, it's a mentality imo. I drink a varying amount but drink more because I like it, rather than to feel drunk - for the most part.

Every night most of a bottle of wine seems too much to me, see if you can easily cut it down yourself and if you struggle it might indicate you have a problem x

For me every night would be too much, me and dh have 1-2 glasses of wine with our dinner on Friday and Saturday and will have a drink at birthday parties/weddings etc.

It can't be healthy for you so I would look at cutting down. I also think maybe you've just made it part of your routine now instead of enjoying the drink

I drink a similar amount if I don't actively watch my intake. That usually lasts a couple of weeks and then I get my ass into gear and go back to drinking twice a week rather than most days!

I have the same crap relationship with food too and go through phases of eating whatever I like and then having to diet again a few weeks later Blush

Thanks for the replies - it's not every night, but I'd probably say I am drinking 4/5 nights out of 7. I think I know deep down that it is probably a bit too much, but I am not sure if I could cut it all out altogether. my youngest was diagnosed as autistic a few months ago and I think I may have slipped into a bad habit using it as a coping mechanism

It's a heck of a lot to have drunk by 6pm on a Monday eve in with the kids. Was it a special occasion?

Could you at least wait in future until after you've put the DC to bed? It won't do them any good whatsoever
to grow up watching Mummy getting sloshed in the kitchen every afternoon.

If you are drinking more due to stress then this is definitely a problem. it means that alcohol is your go to coping mechanism and this is something you should and need to sort out sooner than later.

your liver will thank you for it in the long run.

It is too much I think. It sounds like you've been going through a lot of stress though

It's a bit much.

I'd try and half it. Have a drink later in the evening. Drink on fewer days.

If you are using alcohol as a coping mechanism then you have a problem. Alcoholic isn't a helpful term. It leads people to think if they aren't having vodka for breakfast then they are fine.
5x a week. 6 units in 2/3 bottle. 30 a week. Too many. More than a couple of units a night is considered a binge too.

It's not really a coping mechanism, is it? You're just compounding problems for yourself. Do try your best to snap out of it. Have a glass or 2 at the weekend with a meal in nice company.

It sounds like a habit. You can break it.

Move back the time you have your first drink until after bed time.

Then, Half the amount. If it's impossible, you know that you have a problem, get support.
