To stay off work

Fractured my foot and can hardly walk. Went to A&E Saturday and was given crutches, follow up appointment this week.

Tried driving and it's hurts to drive. I have a desk job so can sit down, but can't really sit with my foot up. Even shoes hurt.

I'm not being unreasonable to have today off am I? I feel guilty!

I think a fractured foot warrants a day off!

Why on earth did you try to drive!?

Because I drove Saturday morning, before I realised it was so painful, and I was OK-ish!

Do you have a cast on your foot now?

Of course you can stay off. I thought you were going to say you had a verruca or piles. Get a sick note from GP if you need a few more days, they will be fine.

A colleague once fractured her ankle and wasn't allowed to work for three bloody months ( NHS) even though she had enough admin to sink a ship because of health and safety. Hmm.

Crack open a box set.

Before you do anything else check with your insurance company that you are covered to drive.

When DH fractured his arm last summer he was told his insurance would be invalid so he couldn't drive. His job was as a delivery driver too 😔 I spent 8 weeks chauffeuring him around! Because he did too much, too soon with regards to movement and bearing weight etc his arm still causes a lot of pain now so be careful!

No cast, they said they didn't think it needed it at the moment. Thank you all - cracking open a box set sounds lovely :)

And hadn't thought of insurance, thank you!

What is your job? Occupational health may need to do a risk assessment before you return.
