to book a hotel just to have a bath?

Our LK is useless. We've gone 4 months without hot water and he still doesn't seem to be doing anything. Local authority aren't much help.

We slower by boiling a kettle, decanting it into a saucepan, adding cold water and dumping it over our heads. I've not felt clean in months. I've been to the gym a couple of times just to use their shower but often it's so busy that there isn't one free.

I miss having a bath. I tried to do one by boiling water with the kettle, but it took over 3 hours to run and wasn't that warm by the time I had enough water.

I'm at the end of my tether, it's been a shit week, my mental health is failing completely. I haven't been able to get adoctor's appointment for a new prescription so am currently 2 weeks into antidepressant withdrawal and I honestly cannot take any more.

All I want is just to have a bath. I can't really afford it but could put it on my credit card. I just want to be in hot water and to relax and to feel clean. WIBU to book a hotel room tonight?

YANBU. have you tried CAB and your MP?

Sorry the most important thing I took from this was you're two weeks without your AD meds. Have you stressed this to the doctors receptionist because it's completely unacceptable you should have to wait under these circumstances. You need to force that issue strongly.

Do you know anyone who might let you have a bath at theirs? I can't think of any friend or relative I wouldn't offer this to in your position.

Can't you just ask a friend if you can use their bath?

YANBU. Have a look at groupon etc to see if there are any deals near you?

Also, call Shelter about your useless landlord and write to your MP about your useless council support. 4 months without hot water is ridiculous.

Please read your tenancy. Most say allow x amount of days for repairs or get it fixed yourself and take the cost from the rent owed. He is taking the piss imo.

Do you have a local swimming pool? You could go there, have a good shower and leave for under a fiver.

He's useless though, took 4 years for him to fix a hole in the kitchen ceiling. Luckily it was over the sink so didn't natter too much when it rained.
We can't afford to live anywhere else. Rent's too expensive and we don't have the money for an initial deposit.

My family all live quite far away and I don't drive. I don't have any friends so can't really ask anyone.

We tried CAB but they just told us to speak to the council, who haven't been much help. Will try Shelter though, thank you.

And about the meds- I've tried explaining the situation to the receptionist but it doesn't make a difference. It's not urgent enough apparently. I have an appointment in 2 weeks time though, that was the earliest she could give me when I called 3 weeks ago. I've been calling frequently since but no earlier appointments have become available.

Oh of course, sorry. I just thought you had no bath! Sorry.

I would contact your local council. The landlord has a duty to make the place decent.

I very much sympathise having recently been without hot water for 2 weeks, I can only imagine your pain after this length of time. At the end I bought a battery operated shower and a large plastic container that holds about 6 kettles worth of water. 3 kettles of hot and the same amount of cold. Pop the battery operated shower pump in and I could have a decent shower and wash my hair. It was from Amazon and great for future camping trips.
I hope you get sorted soon, it is very very wrong to be left in this condition

I didn't think landlords were legally allowed to leave you 24 hours without water. Look into it op. Call Shelter or CAB or something.

Are their any private gyms in the area that do day passes? You could have a nice hot shower and a soak in a jacuzzi for a much cheaper price than a hotel.
Cheaper hotels often don't have baths anymore so if you do go for it triple check you will get one.

Report your landlord. That is not on at all. Agree with the swimming pool idea. Nice hot showers there. Then maybe you can relax in the warm Jacuzzi.

Take a look at this OP. Good advice and access to letter templates. www.thetenantsvoice.co.uk/advice_from_us/heating-and-hot-water/

Where in the Uk are you? In Scotland we have "tolerable standards" whereby private rentals need to meet a basic standard, and the local authority has the power to fix things and bill the LL direct - is there something similar in other parts of UK?

I can relate,?When I am in difficult times I crave a bath, ask around your friendship group before getting into debt to get a bath?

Also I went cold turkey on AD's, please try to get a new prescription

Jammy, first of all running out of anti-depressant medication IS an emergency!! You should get to the doctor pronto. If you have an out-of-ours service in your area, try that tomorrow!!!!!

The bath thing I really get. I thought of booking a hotel room (special offer) next weekend just to have some peace and quiet, no housework, use of swimming pool, spa etc for 2 day! It was very cheap as I booked in advance. I cancelled in the end as I thought it was a bit ridiculous. But I really felt I could have gone, and I have a bath.

I would say get your anti-depressants first.

I would get back on to the Council. I would not give up unless it really is impossible. Crappy private landlords Angry
