What the hell is this 'present' from work colleagues? (Pic included)

My very lovely work colleagues got me a beautiful present for my birthday today (happy birthday to me). It was a voucher for John Lewis that they had all clubbed together to get.

They also handed me a present and told me it was a joke and said I had to open it at home. And that I could chuck it away once opened, they didn't need it back. All my work colleagues were smiling to themselves.

Expecting a massive chocolate penis or something equally immature I opened it and found this.

It looks to me like this is a section of a handheld vacuum cleaner. I don't get the joke at all! 🤔

I'm not messy or particularly clean. It's been used they've not given me a new one.

They're a great bunch and we're all really close so it won't have been meant as nasty.

They messaged me on group chat and won't tell me what the joke is until tomorrow morning. So I thought I'd come to mumsnet to see if you can work it out.

What the hell is this, and what's the joke?

Name changed as identifying

No idea but I need to know grin

TooTiredToBeCreative Fri 10-Mar-17 16:59:13

Very strange!!

Screwinthetuna Fri 10-Mar-17 16:59:20

Yea looks like part of a vacuum. Is it just filled with dust? Very odd!

steff13 Fri 10-Mar-17 17:00:09

I don't know how we could possibly guess without knowing you personally. What sort of work do you do?

CurlyBlueberry Fri 10-Mar-17 17:00:13

No idea either but am watching this thread for the answer!

Is it, um, some kind of blow job joke?!

BikeRunSki Fri 10-Mar-17 17:00:31

Are you a big sucker?

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis Fri 10-Mar-17 17:00:39

No they've emptied it. It can be emptied from the bottom.

Looks like the dirt bit of handheld dyson. Do you like cleaning?

CigarsofthePharoahs Fri 10-Mar-17 17:01:00

Yes, that looks like the dirt trap of a cyclonic vaccum cleaner.
Have you broken one at work? Have you got form for reminding people to clean?
Have you inspected the dirt inside for a clue?

The only thing I can think is that there will maybe be a whole heap of confetti or similar waiting for you in the morning that will need hoovered? Very random!

Essexmum69 Fri 10-Mar-17 17:01:08

Looks like part of a small Dyson. What's in it?

Mummysh0rtlegs Fri 10-Mar-17 17:01:12

handheld dyson without the battery pack, why?!

highinthesky Fri 10-Mar-17 17:01:32

It's an in-joke so no one outside of your office is likely to get it.

redfairy Fri 10-Mar-17 17:01:38

You're not on a diet are you? I can only think about dust, as in the joke on Little Britain with slimming leader Margery Dawes who advocates eating dust. Bit of a long shot I admit.

Weird and placemarking as i gots to know

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis Fri 10-Mar-17 17:02:02

I don't think so. I'm lesbian.

It's honestly wracking my brain.

It's clearly a vacuum cleaner but they've gone to th effort of only including that exact part. Not the whole vacuum.

intheknickersoftime Fri 10-Mar-17 17:02:08

Cross out fail!

WicksEnd Fri 10-Mar-17 17:02:32

Do you eat really quickly and are known as 'The Hoover'?

GotToGetMyFingerOut Fri 10-Mar-17 17:02:37

Is your desk a mess or car or something? Looks like the container for a handheld hoover.

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis Fri 10-Mar-17 17:02:53

It won't be an inside joke I don't think. As they asked me to ask other people if I can't work it out!

Soubriquet Fri 10-Mar-17 17:03:22

Clean freak?

Not so clean freak and really messy?

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis Fri 10-Mar-17 17:03:40

I'm neither clean nor dirty. My cleanliness or lack of has never even been mentioned.

Mummysh0rtlegs Fri 10-Mar-17 17:04:40

You're not a sucker?

marmiteloversunite Fri 10-Mar-17 17:04:41

Do you have to do hoovering at work? Are they going to give you a day off from that?
