Not AIBU but posting for traffic. Am unwell and they have said they are getting baby out in the next 24 hours at 35 weeks, I am terrified, any reassurance would be much appreciated x

Oh sweetheart it's a shock when everything seems so rushed. Have you anyone to go to theatre with you?

Do you know what you're having?

I was with my sister when she had hers at 33 weeks. It was a calm atmosphere, everyone was wonderful.

Babies are generally a pretty good size at 35 weeks. They might need a bit of help in scbu at first but many don't. Hope whatever is making you ill can be fixed quickly so you enjoy being a mum. Flowers

My Dd was born at 35 weeks by EMCS. I was told she would go to SCBU but she was born perfectly fine aand didn't need to. My cesarean went fine.

The worse bit is the wait before hand. Once you're in the theatre it doesn't take long, and you quickly have your baby there to take your mind off of it. Do you have anyone to come and help look after you and the baby afterwards? Stock up on painkillers too, I didn't find the pain too bad as long as I kept up with paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours (including at night), but they may give you something stronger. Best wishes.

35 weeks is early but it's not too early either.

My twin boys were born at 31 weeks via emergency c section and spent 5 weeks in neonatal before coming home perfectly healthy (despite some scary times while we were there).

Over 34 weeks was the magic number to get to as their lungs are
more developed and the sucking reflex will be more prominent, so tube feeding may not even be needed. And remember, 36 weeks is full term for twins...so getting to 35 with a singleton is really positive.

Hope everything goes well xx

35 weeks is great. They are nicely formed and 'in the wild' are nearly good to go.

You've got the right people around you and you're both in great hands. They are doing this to make sure your baby has a well mum to.

Now, feet up, get someone to bring you a cuppa and take 5 mins to yourself before the crazy world of newborns happens.

Hi, I am the worlds biggest drama queen when it comes to pain. I had a c section at 37 weeks and honestly the pain afterwards was no worse than period pain. Both baby and I were fine and healthy afterwards! Good luck !

Hi. I had EMCS at 35 weeks. Baby was pretty small but very healthy. Needed no extra help and we were home in a week. Babies tend to do very well at 35 weeks. Good luck

They are twins who are almost five and positively rude with health.
37 weeks is considered term so by 35 weeks the baby is almost ready. Just a little on the dinky side.

34 weeks cs here. Little bit of special care. Apart from reflux which seems to be common with prem babies, which resolved after a year, no lasting effects :)
Good luck Flowers

I had a false Labour scare at 35 weeks and they were happy to let the baby come. He didn't but they reassured me a baby of that age is well developed.

I did end up with emcs at 40 weeks and that was fine too.

Much luck - you will both be fine. X

You'll be fine.

I've had two sections, one EMCS and one ELCS. Both were calm experiences, the theatre staff are great, they really put you at ease.

Driving after two weeks, was quickly back to normal, and I've had worse pain from headaches than recovery from a section!

I know 2 mothers who had c sections at 33 weeks because of baby growth issues, one singleton one set of twins. All three children did amazing and are the pictures of health (aged 4, 4 and 2 now). At 35 weeks your baby might need a little help but should be fine.

For you, put a giant maternity pad on the outside of your pants over the wound so you can apply gentle pressure if you cough, laugh etc, it helps with the fear you'll pop a stitch. Get peppermint capsules and take them now 1 a day to prevent wind and have some lactulose on hand so you don't get constipated. If you don't have trapped wind or constipation that's a lot less pain to deal with.

Very very best wishes Flowers

I've had 2 elective c sections, 39 weeks & 36 weeks. It was something I never thought would happen to me, on the hospital tour I skipped the theatre part.

Obviously it's very natural to be apprehensive as it's not an every day thing to most of us. To be honest from my experience it was actually no worse than having a tooth out!!!! Really, both times were very laid back (literally) and within 10min of going into theatre you will meet your baby and from that moment you won't care about anything else.

The fear of the unknown is worse than the reality. I couldn't sleep for weeks once I knew I was having a c section. It was the first operation I'd ever had. Everything was so nice, the radio was playing and I can even remember what was on the radio when my youngest was born.

If you want to ask anything about it all pleases ask.

I can't help with the c-section bit, but my 34 weeker just texted me to say she got an A in her A level chemistry mock.

They never figured out why she was early. She was 2.2kg, and after an overnight in SCBU, and another night on the ward with me, we were allowed home. For you, it sounds like you need to worry about being or getting well in yourself. Your little one will soon be here. Good luck, and try not to worry. Believe them if they say she's fine. I worried for years they just had't told me but something was wrong. Blush

Good luck to you all!

Two 36,week C sections, I was worried, consultant and the rest of the team weren't. Both DC are now strapping healthy six footers. Good luck 😀

I had an emcs at 35+2 and all went well. It's much scarier before you go in, once you're in and getting on with it it's honestly fine. Congratulations!
