AIBU?

To ask what you do with your evenings and weekend?

Perhaps it because of the change of season- am going from hibernation into action mode, but have been feeling inexplicably bored and fed up over the past few days. Have come in from work this evening and feel like my evenings are very empty or anything to do (bar stick on the tv or browse mumsnet of course). So, to get some inspiration, thought I would ask for suggestions of what you do to fill empty time?

I get involved with amdram, read, cook, do diy - I'll start gardening when the weather is better, and going for evening walks.

I think it depends on your situation OP. Are you single, with or without kids?

I go swim training 3 nights, alternate Fridays socialising with my friends with my dh socialising with his, and we go out as a family to friends on a Saturday.

@Alaia married but no kids. DH plays sports several times a week, but not sure what I could do with the time. Used to love gym classes, but has become a bit more awkward where I live as none within a quick distance

I seem to be stuck in a cycle of doing the tea, getting DC to bed, doing washing up, then (soon) going to bed.

V boring.

Watch TV, read, colour or sleep mainly. I occasionally go out with my camera or set up some still-life scene to photograph and once a week I go out to camera club.

As a family, on a weekend (if it's not chucking it down) we go to the park or for a walk.

Evenings are generally sorting out tea, homework, tidying up, TV/MNing then reading in bed. Exciting stuff! I gym either before or after work as it's just too busy in the evenings.

Weekends are different and we always plan loads to do, depending on if OH has to work or not. Then we'll go for walks, gym, shopping, drinks, see family or friends and take the kids to any activities they have on.

My evenings
5pm - get dinner for DS
6pm - play games/ TV with DS
7pm - DS bath time/bed - Either me or DH will start cooking our dinner
7.30/8 - Dinner
8.30 - Sofa/ TV/ browsing internet
9.30 Bed!
It's exciting stuff. Once the weather gets nicer and lighter evenings I might start going for a jog when DH gets home from work about 6. He might take DS to the park round the corner for 1/2hr before bed.

Weekends we do tend to do stuff. Hardly ever have a weekend at home with nothing to do things might be:

  • Visiting DH family (2hrs away, might stay over)
  • Visiting my family (1.5 hrs away)
  • Visiting friends who don't live locally
  • Go to National Trust places for a walk then tea & cake
  • Go to the local outdoor museum/ events/ family activity things
  • Go for a cross country walk to the pub/lunch
  • Sorting out the garden. I need to prune and sew seeds over next few weekends.

We do like being outdoors so winter gets a bit boring. Once the summer hits we'll go camping any weekend we are free.

I've got 2 little ones so can't get out much atm but used to go to pub, out to watch sports, gym, and plenty quiet nights watching films etc. If I had the opportunity I'd love to do cake decorating! I want to do classes in a few years and get really good at it.

Think I'm stuck in a rut particularly in the week - it's home, cook, tv, bed, read..

Dh is away Mon to Friday so I play with DC or we go out after I get home from work for a bit of dinner, park or soft play.
Then I get them ready for bed at 7 and then I am free from 8.
I usually watch documentaries or clean so it is a bit dull and lonely.

At weekends dh and I watch a couple of DVDs or go to see a play if we book the babysitter

Last weekend we went for a nice meal but we really need to rethink

What exercise do you like, can you do it at home? Or take up cycling etc?

Two of my DDs go to the gym, my youngest does cookery/cake decorating lessons.

I used to go to the gym/dog walk/just walk. I'm going to start crochery lessons. I've done all sorts of Adult education courses.

My Sister got involved with a Church, she isn't religious, but they were looking for volunteers. It's given her a full social life.

I have friends that have allotments.

There's all sorts of Clubs, 'friends of', Societies, including parks, wildlife, historical buildings.

Evenings: cook, tidy kitchen, ferry kids, hang out washing or fold up washing, help with homework, practice my instrument if everything else is done before kids are in bed.
Then collapse with tablet, TV or book. Friday night is family movie night and another night I go to band practice. In the winter I may have a jigsaw puzzle on the go. In the summer, potter in the garden.
Weekends always varied but always some cleaning and more cooking.

Evenings - workout (static bike or 30 day shred), watch boxsets, read, mess around on the internet, meet friends for drinks/dinner/cinema, generally hang out with DP.

Weekends - if I'm not working, we tend to go out. I live in the Lakes, so we go hiking or to the coast and walk along the beach. Walks often end in pub lunches, or if the weather isn't great, we have movie nights, go wandering around various towns or just have lazy days at home. DP gardens or does DIY too.

If you used to enjoy gym classes but can't go anymore what about some other form of exercise? I get home about 5;30pm, out again at 6 either for a run or (once it's lighter) a cycle. Home at 7, make dinner, get a shower etc and potter about/watch crap tv until bed time to read a book. Such an exciting life!! I try to have one or two nights out during the week though, for drinks or dinner either with DH or friends.

I also sign up for all sorts of online course to improve/educate myself, but never quite get round to doing them...

Taxi service for kids.
Some work, though aim to be in bed by 9pm. I love my sleep and I like an early start.

Think I'm stuck in a rut particularly in the week - it's home, cook, tv, bed, read..

That's what the vast majority of people do, if my friends are anything to go by. And me, obviously.

I hear you OP - just this week I am SO BORED of being at home, the endless cook / wash up / TV / nag the DCs / whatever. DH is working long hours so the evenings without adult conversation or interaction are SO BORING.

I love my DC dearly and they are at a nice age for doing stuff. I suggested getting out of the house this evening, let's go shopping, let's go for dinner, whatever. Nope, no interest. I could insist but then would have stroppy teen to deal with. Plus they have been at school all day and just want to chill out at home and get their homework done so I can't blame them really. I could leave them and go out myself but without a plan would just wander aimlessly. I should research some evening yoga classes or something.

And now I just found out that my friend has to cancel our coffee tomorrow afternoon. Fuck, I was really looking forward to it.
