Aibvvu?? I like my own company. I really do. When I got with my bloke 6 years ago he worked away about 3 nights a fortnight which I really liked. Now work patterns have changed and he is home every night. While this is lovely in a lot of ways especially for dd, aibu to just want time alone?? If I sit up on the sofa until late he sits up too yawning and falling asleep snoring next to me. If I go to bed early he follows me. It just gives me the rage.... and I am ashamed to confess I have flounced out of my nice warm bed where I had 15 minutes of peace before in he jumped......
Now I have that off my chest I can breathe again blush

You could always wait for him to fall asleep and then sneak off to bed insisting that you tried to wake him

devuskums Sun 05-Mar-17 00:06:25

Lol Casmama... believe me I have tried that but he always wakes up...usually as I am just stretching out in bed hmm

Casmama Sun 05-Mar-17 00:08:42

Mmm toughie. Have you tried saying to him that you would like some time on your own?

"Im off for a bath" then just go and tuck up instead.

Rubbish I know but I'm the same as you. I feel like dh follows me sometimes I just like 10 minutes in bed by my self.

Liska Sun 05-Mar-17 00:20:57

Ha ha! I have this with DH. Sometimes if we're watching something on TV that he really likes I'll wander out as if I'm making a cup of tea but I'll actually sneak off to bed with a book. I'm so antisocial! I share your rage.

Okay this would make me feel completely smothered and invaded. YANBU!

Hurrah thank you lovely mners so much for agreeing with me....any advice on how to put LEAVE ME ALONE tactfully ?!!

gamerchick Sun 05-Mar-17 00:46:03

Man, i'm glad I have my own bedroom. It's like a giant hug when I walk in and close the door grin

Tactfull is the bath idea. Me, i'm more of a 'im going upstairs to read in bed for a bit' while handing him the remote.

I'd just say that "as much as I love you, sometimes I just like a little bit of time to myself. Do you mind if I just go chill out for an hour or two?" Not that you're asking permission but that you are just trying to sound amiable about it rather than "for fuck sake I just need some time with out you in the fucking room" grin

This has nothing to do with gender just a shot load to do with the softly, softly approach. It works on my mum and DH equally.

Luckily, DH and I are both like this! He is very happily enjoying some tv time downstairs with a whiskey!

There was an almost identical thread last week or the week before, was that you too? If not, you're not alone in this.

Spam88 Sun 05-Mar-17 01:07:05

Oh you'd hate me, sometimes I literally just follow my DH around the house grin

Note3 Sun 05-Mar-17 01:08:11

Go to bed, wait for him to doze then get up and enjoy a peaceful house. If he wakes just say you had insomnia

gluteustothemaximus Sun 05-Mar-17 01:09:38

Ah, it's sweet all these DH's following their wives around grin

Just be honest, and gently does it. DH loves listening to music and mixing with software. This means headphones are on. So I like to mumsnet, read, chill out too. I think we both seek out our own space as much as wanting to be with each other. But if one had nothing to do, we might follow the other one around grin

So is there anything he likes doing? That way it's not so much you rejecting him, but wanting him to pursue his own space/fun time IYSWIM.

He has no hobbies glutes, just following me around wink...he is lovely in many ways but this really does push my rage button. I didnt see the other post Annie, glad to know I am not the only one though...
