To ask what you do with your evenings if not watching telly?

... Or sorting out the house etc.

How do you fill your evenings when the day is done and you can't or don't want to watch TV?

I'm asking because dh has really got into his hobby lately and he spends a lot of his evenings completely absorbed in it.

I find myself drifting towards netflix and bbc iplayer more and more, it's just so easy (and good!). I'd like to do something more worthwhile sometimes though, so just wondering what you all do or how you feel about this!

Just to say, I do have hobbies but they tend to be daytime based (allotment and cooking). I like reading so sometimes to that. I used to have lots more hobbies (music, photography, rock climbing) but they've all slowly fizzled out as the kids came along.

So, what do you all do?

Lochan Sat 04-Mar-17 21:12:10

Read.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain Sat 04-Mar-17 21:12:26

Can you join something? I sing in a choir once a week which is fun and am on a couple of committees, also a quiz team.

Mingewithafringe Sat 04-Mar-17 21:12:30

Mess about on Facebook / Mumsnet

Read the news on BBC website or Independent as I don't get time to watch it in the day

I have a book of arrow word and crossword puzzles which I always keep next to the sofa. I'll probably pick that up in about half an hour

Mingewithafringe Sat 04-Mar-17 21:13:41

Oh, and draw. Usually photos of family

Lilaclily Sat 04-Mar-17 21:13:46

Mess about on here, play fb games, have music or a Swcd on in the background

I do a bit of gardening but this time of year I bake or upcycle furniture.

Sometimes read in the bath. We have a lot of upcycled furniture in our house grin

Read, calligraphy, go to concerts, make my own clothes (sewing and knitting), other sewing - cushions, Roman blinds. I want to learn upholstery but am moving soon so will be looking for a class there. I'm retired now but these were evening activities, just less of, when I was still working.

Write and mess about online.

HermioneJeanGranger Sat 04-Mar-17 21:21:44

I exercise at home - workout DVD's or use my static bike. On my rest days, I read, mess about online, do adult colouring books, cook/bake, go out for walks in the summer, play with the cats smile

ShowMePotatoSalad Sat 04-Mar-17 21:22:30

I do cross stitch, watch specific programmes on Netflix or iPlayer (rather than just have the TV on), play quiz games with DH, go on my phone, have a bath, or read.

Crochet whilst watching TV, plus paint nails

tabbymog Sat 04-Mar-17 21:29:50

Thanks, Hermione! Play with and groom cats. smile

Read. Endlessly. Bliss!

Mark books, plan lessons. Procrastinate on mumsnet. Lovely life I lead

Lalunya85 Sat 04-Mar-17 21:31:20

Wow, mumsnetters are a creative bunch!

That's exactly what I'm after, something creative. But it feels like I need to motivate myself to do it, but surely it shouldn't feel that way? I work full time and have to kids to run around after - I want something in the evening that feels like a joy, something I look forward to!

I'd love to go for walks but it's dark by the time they're asleep (7:30ish). Same goes for gardening really, though I enjoy reading gardening books and planning my allotment.

Joining a clas would be lovely! But my dh worka eveninga Monday to Friday until 8pm. Not many classes on weekends. Choir would be just the thing! sukey

I volunteer twice weekly, and crochet. But I'm typing this sat in front of last night's Last Leg

notquiteruralbliss Sat 04-Mar-17 21:34:03

During the week I don't have evenings. Get home in time to cook, eat and sleep.

Sparklingbrook Sat 04-Mar-17 21:37:26

Play with Sparklingcat, muck about on the internet. Go out and see friends or have very long text conversations with them if they are far away.

I rediscovered DS1's Nintendo DS and the Brain Training games and played a lot of that at one point. Oh and Sudoko.

Have a laugh with DH.

In better weather I like to sit out on the patio in the evening with a book.

I swim for a club. Most evenings I go training for 2 hours.

HostaFireAndIce Sat 04-Mar-17 21:39:47

We often play scrabble, or backgammon or something, but you can't really do it by yourself...

HelloCanYouHearMe Sat 04-Mar-17 21:40:01

go to the gym or knit (a local hospital is asking for hats for babies so im trying to do a few... im not getting very far though)

wowfudge Sat 04-Mar-17 21:41:35

I am studying for a professional qualification. I try to do a couple of hours every evening to free up the weekends. When it's not term time, I sing in an amazing, award winning chorus. That's quite intense so I can't do both simultaneously.

00100001 Sat 04-Mar-17 21:43:39

Learn to crochet smile

toffeeboffin Sat 04-Mar-17 21:45:05

When I get a minute I like cycling, weather permitting.

Spinning in winter, when I can be bothered.

Or sitting outside with a glass of wine on the terrace.
