Angry

Their teenage daughter has been blasting dance music for about an hour now. The kind with really thumpy bass that you can actually feel through the floor.

If it's not her, it's the dog at similar times or in the middle of the night, barking because he's been shut out in the garden. This can go on for up to two hours at at time, though he sometimes lets up if I go outside and talk to him/ pet him for a couple of minutes.

The walls are thin in our houses, we are a two-up, two- down. Daughter's bedroom is directly underneath ours. I often hear music from downstairs or next door and loud chatting and laughing- especially at the weekends. I can live with this as it's not intrusively loud and generally doesn't go on till very late.

But AIBU to think that at the weekend, when most people generally want to relax/have a lie in, loud thumping music and dog barking should be kept till a bit later in the day?

I was thinking a bit this the other day. Growing up I had space to listen to music but my dd won't, we are in terrace. However ear phones are the answer there is no need for anyone to be inconvenience.

I don't expect to hear any neighbour's music inside my house, day or night, ever. They can put on headphones if they want to ruin their hearing

Have you thought about not shutting your dog in the garden all night?

Oh sorry, just realised it's the neighbour's dog Blush

That would massively fuck me off too.

Ickle princess can use headphones. No reason to do otherwise. Tell the parents that the noise is irritating (princess wont think) and that she turns it off or uses headphones.

Barky dog - I feel your pain. No idea if anything can be done on this as it seems to be a god given right to keep an animal in these cruel conditions.

YANBU she can wear headphones. Fair enough an occasional party (and it's polite to warn in advance) but just hanging around in her room she can play it quietly or plug in her headphones.

No YANBU, have you spoken to them regarding the noise?

I live in a terrace and our neighbours have recently taken to playing music quite loud for a couple of hours a night and early morning This annoys me loads but then I look on the other side that they can probably hear us (4 kids, baby cries and the older ones play and fight!) I think they are definitely BU as talking and general living sounds is one thing but there's no real excuse for having anything up so loud that it bothers other people. As for the poor dog they sound like people who need a bit of a lesson in looking after a pet.

YNBU but my neighbours are constantly doing this and it doesn't half piss me off.

Are you renting, private or council? I think it depends on how arsed they are tbh as to whether anything can be done.

Ours don't give a shit as long as the rent is being paid.

You're right Weeble, I have a seven year old who isn't exactly light on his feet and DP and I go to bed late so there are probably times they can hear us too but we are careful not to let DS run around at any time of the day, none of us wear shoes in the house to minimise noise and if I have music/ tv on it's never loud enough that it would disturb anyone.

I appreciate that the walls are thin here, I don't expect total silence but the music is so loud and so early in the morning, we can hear it above our own tv.

The dog barking drives me up the wall- we have a shared right of way and they just leave their door open for the dog to come and go as it pleases. I don't think it's cruel as he isn't shut out but he barks at something in the garden and wont stop.

They shouted and swore at me because DS forgot to shut our front gate and their dog escaped once. I understand why they were upset but they make no effort to ensure the area is secure before they let him out.

I rent privately but hope to be here for the forseeable so I don't want to rock the boat and cause ill feeling, we get on ok generally and i know how much worse people can act if they feel wronged.

As i type, daughter has her music on again, I can hesr the bass but over my tv being on it's barely audible. I find that ok but it's the blaring at 7.30am I find unbearable.

The use of headphones should be included in any lease or buying situation now.

It is becoming so repetitive on threads and the lack of awareness for others is just so selfish.

I've no problem with a one off feck off party until the early hourse, but every day all day is just Meh now.

And it will not stop until some law says so in a multiple home/flat environment.

That doesn't stop them crowing and laughing out back all night. But it's a start! Live and let live. I don't understand why the noise makers have it all their way.
