AIBU?

To think SiL takes Facebook 'likes' too much to heart?

SiL is very glamorous – think Footballer’s Wives levels of maintenance. She also loves the high life and expensive brand name stuff and she and DB1 are always flying business class or out at fancy restaurants or hotels. They constantly post photos of themselves partaking in these activities on Facebook, and SiL posts dozens of glam selfies per week. All fine in itself if that’s what you want to do.

However, if I or any member of my family don’t happen to click Like or make a comment on her photo saying how fabulous she looks, DB1 rings us and tells us off! My DM has got several bollockings from him for not doing this – apparently SiL was in tears last time, as none of us had Liked her last selfie. He even told my DM exactly what to say when making a comment on this! It’s actually really upsetting my DM but whenever I or DB2 try to talk to DB1 about it he gets shitty with us.

AIBU to think this is all a bit batshit?

(And no, I'm not going to delete my Facebook account just because of this!)

YANBU! She needs to give her head a wobble - and DB needs to stop enabling her!

I would have to say "sorry, I just can't commit to spending that much time on FB. Nothing personal, I think she's lovely! If it helps, I can give her a thumbs up every time I see you?"

Your Sil sounds like she has low self esteem and your brother is feeding it by telling you all off or they are show offs and need to get a grip either way your brother is being ridiculous and you need to tell him that.

YANBU! How old are SIL and DB? 12?

How excruciating. Is she quite well in the noggin?

Yes, you'd think they were teenagers pasturesgreen but they are both early thirties!

Lol @give a thumbs up next time I see you! Maybe with Smile too!

And give your brother a Angry face!

That's a new level of attention seeking but you're right to ignore it and your brother isn't doing her any favours by encouraging it.

Your poor mum though, she shouldn't have to be dragged into silly childishness - I feel for her. Just tell your brother to grow up!

My cousin is like this.

She has too much time on her hands though

'...quite well in the noggin' Grin

She sounds exhausting op. Your poor mum, could you have a word with your db and tell him to lay off her?

She sounds terribly insecure -it's quite sad really if you think about it.

She must have torturously low self-esteem.

Ludicrous - don't pander to it. I would say to your DB that you think it's sad and rather worrying that his wife gets her self worth from numbers of "likes" on fb selfies.
Yes she's gorgeous but you value her more than that, as a whole individual.

Sorry, I know you said he gets shitty with you, but that wouldn't be enough to put me off telling a sibling to have a word with yourself if it was justified or it was upsetting our mum. Would he listen if you were deadly serious about it?

Tell your brother all this hitting the like button is playing havoc with your thumb, wearing it out! Your thumb is busy today, opening jars and stuff!

How stupid, life's far too short to worry about facebrag. Tell your sil to grow up and get a life

... is your SIL Katie Price, OP?

A memory is surfacing of a wonderful woman imitating photos of glam and famous people in the most hilarious way. I saw it on fb, I wonder if I can find it again. I might be tempted to do the same to sil (ape her photos myself) if wound up enough... I bet it would get more 'likes' too Grin
Ps, don't actually do it if it would create a family-wide shitstorm, but if you do please link the photos here!

Crikey, I would deleted her off my facebook, can't be faced with all that hassle.

It's weird, and definitely not just a bit batshit, it's a colony of bats worth of shit. I would laugh down the phone if I received a call like that in the future, I would say oh that's hilarious, sorry I haven't got time to chat but thanks for the laughs.

Is this the only thing SIL has to worry about ?, most people I know are on their knees through dealing with major life changing events. Yet an adult woman is getting herself in a state over something so trivial and petty. They both need to grow up.

bonkers batshit yes.
They both sound pretty unhappy and needy despite all the "glamour" of their lifestyle.
