Dd's school just piss me off, I have the rage angry. World book dayday today, they never participate, ever, they are useless BUT dd has just come to to say they are allowed to participate and dress up as whatever they like - tomorrow!!! Like wtf??? World book day is today and at 3pm today where in the hell am I supposed to pull a costume from for tomorrow? We are rural so nowhere nearby, nearest town is 20 miles away angry gobshites

I hate it. There are far too many dressing up expenses with school and nursery, it stresses parents out

rogueantimatter Thu 02-Mar-17 15:28:30

Very annoying.

If she has a red hoody -little red riding hood?

Jayfee Thu 02-Mar-17 15:33:18

There is another thread on MN somewhere with suggestions for costumes that you can cobble together at home!

I've no idea why schools think dressing up is the only way to take part? hmm
My ds school don't dress up (thank God as I'm not at all creative), but they do a sponsored readathon for charity, and lots of other reading focussed activities.

Percy Jackson character, Annabel Chase (or one of the many other Half blood girls) orange t shirt with Camp Half blood written on it.

DaffodilsAndCrocus Thu 02-Mar-17 15:44:00

This year ours read- no dressing up!

DaffodilsAndCrocus Thu 02-Mar-17 15:45:09

My niece once went as Hermione from Harry Potter- uniform and messy hair.

liz70 Thu 02-Mar-17 15:47:00

Three DDs here. They've never been asked to dress up for any WBD in the thirteen years they've been attending school. Looks like we've had a lucky escape!

My friend at work said her boy went as the dummy slappy from goosebumps. A suit a red bow tie and slick back hair is this is any good!

Bloodyworldbookday Thu 02-Mar-17 15:56:17

have you got an old Halloween witch outfit? Worse Witch

Bloodyworldbookday Thu 02-Mar-17 15:56:33

Worst even!

Nocabbageinmyeye Thu 02-Mar-17 15:59:00

Thanks a million for all the suggestions, I'm going to Google as I don't know them all. To make matters worse we have recently moved so a lot of our things are in storage, I have nothing at all crafty and only everyday clothes so I don't even have much to put something together from!

I honestly would have helped dd (11) put something together with notice but to tell us on world book day for the day after is super irritating, I wish they would go back to being useless as they were less annoying that way

There will be hundreds of parents selling off costumes on FB selling pages from today.
Get on there and ask if anyone's selling a WBD costume in your dd's size and you'll get loads of responses I would have thought, pick it up tonight.

DramaQueenofHighCs Thu 02-Mar-17 16:07:37

Last year my DS went as one of the Secret 7. Shirt, trousers, trainers and a 'SS' badge made from cardboard with a pin stuck on.
Simple.

Nocabbageinmyeye Thu 02-Mar-17 16:09:20

Ah fb selling pages are a good idea GlitteryFluff , to be honest though at this late stage I actually don't think I'll put in that much effort, I doubt we will be the only ones to be honest, I'll lose my mother of the year certificate but hey ho

poisonusnorks Thu 02-Mar-17 16:12:30

Dress them up as George Orwell and have them read extracts from "Burmese Days" whilst smoking a pipe.
I hope this helps.

PuppyMonkey Thu 02-Mar-17 16:14:44

Just get her to go in her pyjamas and a dressing gown and she's the little girl from the BFG.

spiderlight Thu 02-Mar-17 16:16:10

That's ridiculous! Is it maybe jsut that the kids have all been asking today and the Head has just said 'Oh, go on then'. What about Pippi Longstocking - pinafore, stripy tights, pigtails, drawn-on freckles. My friend's daughter did this and looked fab.

milliemolliemou Thu 02-Mar-17 16:19:24

try your best and just suggest to the school children reading their best bits - even from a comic - is a better celebration of WBD than dressing up

Areyoufree Thu 02-Mar-17 16:20:12

@poisonusnorks I love your name and everything about you...Although, on reflection, have I made an error? Is it "poisonous norks", "poison u snorks" or "poison us norks"?

Megatherium Thu 02-Mar-17 16:27:17

Leave them in uniform, say they're characters from Malory Towers or similar.
