Parking thread - Genuinely not sure if IABU

Dropping off DC1 at nursery today it was extremely busy - DC1 has been going to this nursery for almost 3 years and it's never been this busy.

The nursery is in a little business park where there are offices for building companies or other non-shop businesses. The yellow unit is a unit that does have customers visiting the site, probably around 2 an hour and they leave their parking spaces free for customers. There is a little private road that is in between the units and the parking spaces that loops round to the main A road.

The diagram shows a colour for the unit and a colour for each of the parking spaces, you can see that they are empty.

I am usually car 1 or 2 at the drop off but today because it was ridiculously busy I was car 5 (the blue car). I actually waited for a few minutes but none of the cars 1-4 were moving, two of them had people sat in the car on their phones (so i thought they might be about to drive off), we were about to be late so instead of waiting for slot 1 or 2 I quickly parked as car 5 and ran in to drop of DC1. This took maybe 2 minutes - just a drop and run.

When i came out a man had come out of the yellow unit and he started to shout at me about how i cant park in front of his unit and how it's a road and you cant park on a road. I said that I was sorry but there were no spaces free and I was only 2 minutes.

He pointed to some of the blue and orange free spaces and said i should have parked there. I asked if it would be better if i parked in one of the yellow spaces and he said no because they are private and I should park in one of the other units spaces. I said that they were private too and that there are no markings that prohibit parking where I parked.

I then quickly put DC2 in the car seat and drove off.

I'm not sure if this will happen again as its not happened in 3 years of parking here but WIBU to park there?

I don't think for 2 minutes it was unreasonable to park there but either way just want to give you kudos for your diagram!

LIZS Wed 01-Mar-17 10:59:01

I would have used one of the free bays. Nice pic!

gabsdot Wed 01-Mar-17 10:59:28

YANBU and your diagram is a work of art. Gold star to you.

clairethewitch70 Wed 01-Mar-17 11:01:49

I don't think you are being unreasonable. He was, by telling you to park in other units spaces and not his! Great diagram by the way.

alwaysthepessimist Wed 01-Mar-17 11:02:58

wow your diagram gets an A** off me - fabulous!

And no YANBU - he was a cocknobbin. Hope he spills hot tea on his crotch today

Rhayader Wed 01-Mar-17 11:10:13

Thanks all smile I feel wrong using the bays because they actually have signs up saying "private parking for X"

MontysTiredMummy Wed 01-Mar-17 11:13:18

<pinches the word cocknobbin from always>

YWNBU OP and kudos for the diagram!

steppemum Wed 01-Mar-17 11:13:19

so, you parked legally on a road with no yellow lines and not obscuring his entrance?

Of course you are not BU!

ShotsFired Wed 01-Mar-17 11:13:20

Have you considered whether you are just one in a long line of people "quickly" using his space? That presumably he has paid for in some way (unit rental £, contractual assurance of dedicated spots etc).

You may just have been the straw that broke the camels back.

FetchezLaVache Wed 01-Mar-17 11:22:54

I have no idea whether YABU or not, but I DO know that you have just set the bar for parking diagrams extremely high!

carrotcakecupcake Wed 01-Mar-17 11:24:11

A star for your diagram, possibly the best I've seen to date.

And in my opinion YANBU; it sounds like today was an unusual situation and hopefully won't happen again soon. I agree with PP that you might have been the straw that broke the camel's back, and perhaps expect a comment in the next nursery newsletter. Does the Nursery give any advice on how to manage drop offs WRT the other businesses in the business park?

Rhayader Wed 01-Mar-17 11:26:31

Yeah ShotsFired that was my thinking for whether IWBU. Also because its a private road and i don't know if there would actually be road markings if it was prohibited, although there are on the left section...

I know that it's never usually as busy as it was this morning so it's not a common occurrence in general but I don't know whether he had people there on and off for the hour or so before I dropped off - it is possible.

Haha thanks for diagram praise, I do love a good diagram.

Rhayader Wed 01-Mar-17 11:28:24

Sorry xpost, there is no advice on parking from nursery. I kind of wish there was as there is one dad who parks perpendicular to car 1, therefore blocking the exit. He does it every day.

Rachel0Greep Wed 01-Mar-17 11:28:35

Excellent diagram grin. No advice really. I now know I will never be able to start a parking thread, the standard of diagrams is far too high.

WateryTart Wed 01-Mar-17 11:32:01

Orgasmic diagram, OP.

Evilstepmum01 Wed 01-Mar-17 11:35:12

Cocknobbin and the best diagram I have ever seen. I particularly love the baby motif designating the nursery.

YWNBU, you werent parked and were dropping off only. Moving forward, park in shouty mans spots??

I could never do such a professional diagram, its just amazing!!

ShakingAndShocked Wed 01-Mar-17 11:35:46

Sod whatever you're asking about, that diagram??!

BEST PARKING DIAGRAM EVER

Nothing else to addblush

ThumbWitchesAbroad Wed 01-Mar-17 11:39:31

"Competitive parking diagrams" is going to be a thing now, isn't it! grin

YWNBU, he was being a knob.

PuppyMonkey Wed 01-Mar-17 11:40:05

Also came on just to see the diagram and wow, it's a corker. Surely the only way up from this would be a video re-enactment?

DoodleDoodleDo Wed 01-Mar-17 11:44:18

I would ask the nursery what the rules are if this is a private road. Where I work, the private road leading up to our building has no lines on it, but we are absolutely not allowed to park. There may be something in the lease of the building relating to this.

DoodleDoodleDo Wed 01-Mar-17 11:44:36

Excellent diagram btw

DoubleR Wed 01-Mar-17 11:45:02

Fabulous diagram OP! And no YWNBU.

sunshinesupermum Wed 01-Mar-17 11:48:15

Fab diagram. HWBVU

HappyFlappy Wed 01-Mar-17 11:49:04

The standard of diagrams on this forum, particularly for parking threads, has no equal!

I think we should open a gallery!

Your accuser was a tw*t, Rhayader

I would "Miss Jolly" *him if this happens again.
