It might mean I actually get some shit done though I'm not sure I could see it through!

amroc18 Tue 28-Feb-17 20:11:28

I'm actually doing this. Currently having my last binge! grin

Bambambini Tue 28-Feb-17 20:12:04

Think it's a great idea! I'd like to be strong enought give up tinternet for a month (apart from necessary use)

Lancelottie Tue 28-Feb-17 20:12:55

Well, according to Wikipedia 'there is no obligation to fast on the six Sundays in Lent', so maybe you could get your fix one day a week?

Cuppaand2biscuits Tue 28-Feb-17 20:13:01

I gave up Facebook for lent last year and that when I started to use mumsnet because I couldn't browse Facebook!

Birdsgottaf1y Tue 28-Feb-17 20:13:11

I'd did it one year and it freed up a lot of time.

I cut down on the internet in general and felt a lot better for it.

MamaBear98 Tue 28-Feb-17 20:13:26

I'm doing this as well thought I'd be the only one mad enough to do it grin

Cuppaand2biscuits Tue 28-Feb-17 20:14:02

Yes, I checked Facebook only on a Sunday. And my friend took screen shots of anything gossip worthy and whats app to me!

MegaBlocksBaby Tue 28-Feb-17 20:17:22

This is actually a brilliant idea. I'm in.

I'm addicted to my smartphone and the internet to the detriment of my life. So it's actually something that benefits me and enhances my life... maybe that's not exactly in the spirit of Lent? confused

Last time I gave up Facebook I managed two days. Two. Fecking. Days. I do like seeing people's babies though! blush

ErnesttheBavarian Tue 28-Feb-17 20:19:50

I do this every year. If I need to look up something for work or whatever, or a 1 x a day email check I will, but bye bye Mr Google and random intending and mumsnet.com till Easter. You can do it. Thanks for reminding me! smile

IvankaTrudeau Tue 28-Feb-17 20:35:39

lancelottie ooh I didn't realise that about Sundays. Will go crazy on AIBU every Sunday to make up for it grin

MegaBlocks some people do prefer the "taking up something new" approach instead of giving up something for Lent, so it could be like that? Like you give up mumsnet but fill the time with productive or more beneficial things instead?

LadyPW Tue 28-Feb-17 20:37:09

I might try giving that up too. I'm giving up spending money so just on Amazon now for a last binge hmm

Charley50 Tue 28-Feb-17 20:46:12

I thought of giving mumsnet up for lent too, but I doubt I'm that strong-willed. But Sunday would be such a treat! How long is Lent anyway?

latedecember1963 Tue 28-Feb-17 21:02:59

I've done this for the last 2 years and it's a lot tougher than giving up chocolate or biscuits. Wondering if I can get away with giving up all mumsnet categories except the Slimming World thread. DS2 thinks this is cheating? What do you think?

JaneJeffer Tue 28-Feb-17 21:05:37

I hope there will be someone left on here for me to chat to shockgrin

latedecember1963 Tue 28-Feb-17 21:14:51

Charley50 we usually end Lent on Palm Sunday as the lead up to Easter Day is Holy Week. Some denominations count Holy Week as part of Lent and stop on Easter Sunday.

justgivemethepinot Tue 28-Feb-17 21:17:25

I can just imagine a 'lent' thread and nobody post on it for 40 days......grin

JaneJeffer Tue 28-Feb-17 21:21:10

Just grin

I never knew that Sundays were exempt until a couple of years ago. We were never told that when I was growing up.

RupertsMum2 Tue 28-Feb-17 21:23:44

JaneJeffer I will be here!

TroysMammy Tue 28-Feb-17 21:24:56

I want to do it too but don't know if I will be strong enough. I have quite a few unread books on my Kindle and a shit load of stuff I can busy myself with. I'll keep Facebook though as I use that mainly for wishing Happy Birthdays and I'll continue to eat the chocolate I had at Christmas.

Sod it, I will leave MN but will miss the funny posts and the kitten and cat photos. TTFN but I suspect I'll be back.

topcat2014 Tue 28-Feb-17 21:25:13

I am giving up:
Chocolate, Crisps, Cake, Biscuits, Crisps and (maybe) wine..

Not sure I could manage internet on top though!

Lochan Tue 28-Feb-17 21:25:44

I did it after a thread just like this two years ago. Gave up for Lent and came back with a new name.

I did it properly too, none of this Sundays are ok nonsense. grin

It was quite hard but it wasn't life changing.

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander Tue 28-Feb-17 21:26:13

Ooh good idea - I was thinking of doing "not pissing about on your smartphone all the time February" as a followup to Dry January but that..kind of didn't happen. But I could do Lent instead.

GirlsonFilm Tue 28-Feb-17 21:30:11

I'm in. MN can easily waste 3 hours a night so I'm going to use the time to tidy and exercise. See you on 17th April😆

JaneJeffer Tue 28-Feb-17 21:30:36

It'll be just me and you then Rupertsmile
