Colleague described a new worker who is around 35 as middle aged the other day. I was rather shocked I'm 45 and consider myself middle aged and 35 young.

Bloody hell, I hope not!

Bantanddec Sun 26-Feb-17 16:39:26

I'd say middle aged was 50!

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 Sun 26-Feb-17 16:39:48

I am 45 and my dc won't hear that I am middle aged yet!!

khajiit13 Sun 26-Feb-17 16:39:51

Yeah I'd jump to 45 as middle aged

Mrsknackered Sun 26-Feb-17 16:40:05

I suppose 40's is middle aged as life expectancy (i believe) is early 80's for women.
As corny as it is, age is just a number.
I definitely wouldn't class 35 as middle aged, maybe not 'young' but in no means old!

TheElephantofSurprise Sun 26-Feb-17 16:40:37

Laughable.
My dd is 34, and she's a child.

55-70 is middle-aged. You can be young for another 10 years, OP. I say so.

BestIsWest Sun 26-Feb-17 16:41:08

No. 35 is very young. 54 is middle aged. I'm 53

SaucyJack Sun 26-Feb-17 16:41:39

Funny you should post this. I'm 35, and I bought my first Regatta fleece jacket last week.

I'm certainly creeping into middle aged.

SaorAlbaGuBrath Sun 26-Feb-17 16:41:51

Holy shit I hope not! I'm 35!

Gingernaut Sun 26-Feb-17 16:42:07

My family 35 is middle-aged.

It depends on what you're used to.

Crumbs1 Sun 26-Feb-17 16:43:14

I think it depends how old you are. For me it's barely out of childhood.

Oysterbabe Sun 26-Feb-17 16:43:45

I think middle aged is literally the middle of your life expectancy, so early 40s.

stevie69 Sun 26-Feb-17 16:47:06

I'm 50. And I'm young. I'm not sure when middle age starts but certainly not yet.

Costacoffeeplease Sun 26-Feb-17 16:51:02

45 starts middle age, unless we're all going to routinely live to 110/120

I'm 51

Iamastonished Sun 26-Feb-17 16:58:27

Is the colleague a teenager?

I'm 58, so I suppose I am middle aged sad

Oysterbabe Sun 26-Feb-17 17:00:55

What about old age? I guess pension age because of the term OAP?

BumWad Sun 26-Feb-17 17:03:32

Eh? Middle aged is 50-60 ish

MrsTerryPratchett Sun 26-Feb-17 17:07:16

Middle aged is 5 years older than I am. Not helpful for the rest of you, but it works for me.

PetalMettle Sun 26-Feb-17 17:08:09

Yeah I'd reckon so. I will be 36 this week sad

thesockgap Sun 26-Feb-17 17:08:43

35?! Bloody hell. That's just a young pup! I would consider late 40s to 50s as middle aged.

TroysMammy Sun 26-Feb-17 17:08:50

At 49 I consider myself middle aged. Next year I'll be halfway to death grin

BoomBoomsCousin Sun 26-Feb-17 17:09:38

Yy MrsTerryPratchett grin

highinthesky Sun 26-Feb-17 17:10:48

43 and middle aged but what the hell, I'm not unhappy about having lived a good life thus far.

Purplebluebird Sun 26-Feb-17 17:11:35

Goodness, I'd think 45 is middle aged. I'm 28, and definitely do not feel I will be middle aged in 6-7 years!
