AIBU?

AIBU to think this person is lazy or just plain nasty?

I live on an estate with a private road. It is narrow and people park on one side of the road near the houses. In the daytime there are plenty of spaces for people to park, but everyday around lunchtime a white van parks IN THE ROAD regardless of there being parking spaces and the guy goes in the friend's house for ages and ages.
Always around the school run time. I'm at the end of the road and the only one with young children.
I have to beep my horn loads of times to get him to move and he always glares at me as if I'm causing the trouble!
He does this all the time. If I had to avoid this, I'd either have to leave over half an hour earlier or park at the other end of the street, but can't see why I should as I have a driveway.
I've spoken to the owner of the house, but they say that they can't control what their work mate does and I should 'chill'.
He did have an argument with another resident once as they were coming the other way and wanted to get past.
No need for it as there is plenty of parking!

Report it as abandoned in the middle of the road?

Some spray mount and a piece of paper saying "Stop parking like a cunt" for his window should cure him of that annoying little habit.

Anyway you can leave a little bit earlier and block him getting in? Bring a book and if he wants you to move so he can get past yell him to 'chill'.

Have you tried speaking directly with the van driver? I appreciate that you're in the right here and shouldn't have to, but I also live on a private street and my experience of tradespeople is that they tend to respond a lot better to being spoken with directly.

Yabvvvu,

I think you'll find this is technically a parking thread therefore requires a diagram. Grin

I think the poster suggesting parking to block him in is on to something... Could you discuss this with the neighbours who´ve also been inconvenienced by him and arrange something?

You are quite right bummymummy - a diagram is mandatory in such circumstances.

Definitely need a picture!

Agree with blocking him in, as many times as it takes to get the massage across.

You need to block him in from the other side so he can't leave. And do it every time you can. Get neighbours on board

If it's a work van, call the company and complain. obviously this only works if the person answering the phone isn't the person parking in your road

Do you really think a massage would help him to park more considerately Onewiththeforce?

Or is it for the OP, to help her to 'chill'? Grin

You know lipstick is very greasy and hard to wipe off - it tends to smear - just saying

The owner of the house he is visiting can and should control what their mate does.
"Oi knobhead! You're not coming in until you've parked your van properly! "

museumum · 24/02/2017 20:48

Have you asked him when he comes out to move it why he doesn't use a parking space? Or told him that you're up and down the road all the time and likely to need past most days?

Fixxake - Jenny and Jolly has been removed as possibly identifying and could bite them in the bum when pressing charges.
