AIBU?

To refuse to feed my children tonight

Dc aged 9 and 6 drove me crackers in the supermarket earlier as I was attempting a weekly shop so I ended up abandoning the trolley and hauling them out.

As a consequence, we've not much food in the house. I was about to cook something when dd2 whined she didn't want that, she wanted something else. Dd1 whined she didn't want that.

I turned off the oven.

WIBU not to feed them this evening?

Erm, yes, that would be unreasonable.

WheresTheEvidence · 23/02/2017 17:25

I'd give them bread and butter tbh

LoopyLou1981 · 23/02/2017 17:26

They'd get toast in this house x

DearMrDilkington · 23/02/2017 17:26

Give them a sandwich.

WorraLiberty · 23/02/2017 17:27

Kids are annoying, but you are the adult here.

It just sounds a little bit childish on your part.

Bluntness100 · 23/02/2017 17:27

You can't starve your kids, no. Ffs.

5foot5 · 23/02/2017 17:27

Well obviously YWBU not to offer them anything but I can understand how you feel!

What if you just make a meal, serve it and tell them to come and sit down and eat it. If they don't eat then they don't get anything else.

If they leave it they won't starve to death for one missed meal but at least they had the chance

Everyoneafter3 · 23/02/2017 17:27

Hero dh has just marched in said he'll make then their favourite meal.

Yes as annoying as kids are you are kind of obliged to feed them unfortunately,
Beans on toast all round?

luckylucky24 · 23/02/2017 17:28

Yep, sandwich or something similar. Beans on toast at a push.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/02/2017 17:29

My kids would love a sandwich, that's like rewarding them for being a pain in the arse!

I'd cook them the thing they don't want and give them a both barrels rant about being pains in the arse.

BalletZeus · 23/02/2017 17:29

Cereal, toast and banana.

Am sure you are frustrated.

Of course you know they must get food!

Everyoneafter3 · 23/02/2017 17:29

One won't eat beans.

One won't eat sandwiches.

Neither will accept sandwiches or toast as an evening meal.

Obviously I will feed them. I'm fed up of running a café!

I'd have done cereal. Or toast. One meal won't kill them, and might help them make the connection between chores and dinner!

Applesauce29 · 23/02/2017 17:30

Just pick a meal you want to eat and serve it. Otherwise give them sandwich / cereal.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/02/2017 17:30

No! I've changed my mind! They need to explain to DH why there is no food and then they can all cook for you.

steppemum · 23/02/2017 17:31

make something boring but edible, and as they sit down, say calmly it is all the food that we have in the house because they were so badly behaved in the supermarket.

next time you go, gently remind them at the start about behaviour.

hearyoume · 23/02/2017 17:33

Cereal or an empty tummy in this house. I don't even trouble myself with toast.

Your DH is no hero. Sounds like "fun time daddy". I have one of those to contend with too.

WhatIsWrongWithMePlease · 23/02/2017 17:33

Cook something.
Put it on the table.
Tell everyone dinner is ready.
Anyone that doesn't eat, goes without.

Everyoneafter3 · 23/02/2017 17:33

I normally never shop with them as I do it on my one afternoon off a week.

Well that's tough shit, surely? Confused

Aliveinwanderland · 23/02/2017 17:36

You had to abandon a trolley with a 9 and 6 year old? I can imagine issues with a tired tantruming toddler but at age I would expect them to be capable of behaving themselves in a supermarket!

They are well past old enough to know better.

Bread and butter and early bedtime. nip it now.

RedAndYellowStripe · 23/02/2017 17:39

Hero dh has just marched in said he'll make then their favourite meal.

I would have more issue with that.
Are you saying that you had two dcs who misbehaved and got really difficult as to what to eat and he jumping through hoops to keep them happy?
So in effect, when they could have learnt the easy relation between no shopping = no food in the house = no choice as to what to eat, they haven't learnt a thing from their behaviour.
Now that IS a shame...

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/02/2017 17:40

They'd get toast here. Eat it or go without. Their fault and they don't get to be fussy buggers about it. Tough crap.
